Compare the2025 Lexus GXVS 2024 Lincoln Navigator

For enhanced safety, the front and second-row seat shoulder belts of the Lexus GX have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Lincoln Navigator doesn’t offer pretensioners for its second-row seat belts.

Both the GX and Navigator have rear cross-traffic warning, but the GX has Rear Cross-Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Navigator’s Cross-Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the GX and the Navigator have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The GX’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Navigator’s (6 vs. 5 years).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are better in initial quality than Lincoln vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus above average in initial quality. With 50 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lincoln is rated below average.

Power ranks Lexus first in reliability, above the industry average. With 116 more problems per 100 vehicles, Lincoln is ranked 25th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Lincoln vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Lexus first in overall reliability. Lincoln is ranked 23rd.

As tested in Motor Trend the Lexus GX is faster than the Lincoln Navigator:

The GX has a standard locking fuel door. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Navigator. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

The GX stops shorter than the Navigator:

The GX has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Navigator; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The GX Overtrail has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Navigator doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

For better maneuverability, the GX’s turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the Navigator’s (39.4 feet vs. 40 feet).

For greater off-road capability the GX Overtrail has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Navigator (9.8 vs. 9.6 inches), allowing the GX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Lexus GX may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 150 to 250 pounds less than the Lincoln Navigator.

The GX is 1 foot shorter than the Navigator, making the GX easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

As tested by Car and Driver while at idle, the interior of the GX Overtrail+ is quieter than the Navigator Black Label (37 vs. 42 dB).

The GX’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Navigator’s (9063 vs. 6200 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Lincoln Navigator is only 8300 pounds. The GX offers up to a 9096 lbs. towing capacity.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Lexus service is better than Lincoln. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in service department satisfaction. With a 44% lower rating, Lincoln is ranked 19th.

The GX’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Navigator does not have an oil pressure gauge.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The GX offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Navigator doesn’t offer headlight washers.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the GX to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Navigator doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

When the GX is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Navigator’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Lexus GX outsold the Lincoln Navigator by 82% during 2023.
