The GX comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Land Cruiser’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.
Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the GX 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Toyota covers the Land Cruiser. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Land Cruiser ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.
The GX’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Land Cruiser’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Tires and Wheels
For better traction, the GX has larger tires than the Land Cruiser (265/55R20 vs. 245/70R18).
The GX’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Land Cruiser’s optional 60 series tires.
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GX offers optional 22-inch wheels. The Land Cruiser’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.
Suspension and Handling
The GX offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Land Cruiser’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.
The GX Overtrail+ handles at .71 G’s, while the Land Cruiser pulls only .69 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.
The GX Premium executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.3 seconds quicker than the Land Cruiser (28.4 seconds @ .61 average G’s vs. 29.7 seconds @ .55 average G’s).
For greater off-road capability the GX Premium has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Land Cruiser (8.7 vs. 8 inches), allowing the GX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The GX Overtrail’s minimum ground clearance is 1.1 inches higher than on the Land Cruiser (9.8 vs. 8.7 inches).
Chassis
As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the GX Overtrail+ is quieter than the Land Cruiser (67 vs. 68 dB).
Passenger Space
The GX has standard seating for 7 passengers; the Land Cruiser can only carry 5.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the GX’s available liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.
Towing
The GX’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Land Cruiser’s (9063 vs. 6000 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Toyota Land Cruiser is only 6000 pounds. The GX offers up to a 9096 lbs. towing capacity.
Servicing Ease
The GX uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Land Cruiser uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.
J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Lexus service is better than Toyota. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in service department satisfaction. With a 46% lower rating, Toyota is ranked 21st.
Ergonomics
The GX’s standard Smart Access allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Smart Key System standard on the Land Cruiser doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.
In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The GX offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer headlight washers.
To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the GX offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer cornering lights.
Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the GX to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.
The GX’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Land Cruiser has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.
Both the GX and the Land Cruiser have standard heated front seats. The GX also offers optional heated second row seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Land Cruiser.
The GX Luxury/Overland+ has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Land Cruiser.
