Compare the2025 Kia EV6VS 2025 Porsche Taycan

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the EV6 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Taycan doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the EV6 and the Taycan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The EV6 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Taycan’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Kia’s powertrain warranty covers the EV6 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Porsche covers the Taycan. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Taycan ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 4 times as many Kia dealers as there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the EV6’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Kia vehicles are better in initial quality than Porsche vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Kia fourth in initial quality, above the industry average. With 9 more problems per 100 vehicles, Porsche is ranked 7th.

For better traction, the EV6 has larger standard tires than the Taycan (235/55R19 vs. 225/55R19).

For better maneuverability, the EV6 GT’s turning circle is .2 feet tighter than the Taycan Cross Turismo’s (39.2 feet vs. 39.4 feet).

The Kia EV6 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 500 pounds less than the Porsche Taycan.

The EV6 is 11 inches shorter than the Taycan Cross Turismo, making the EV6 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

For excellent aerodynamics, the EV6 has standard flush composite headlights. The Taycan has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The EV6 has 11 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Taycan Cross Turismo (103 vs. 92).

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EV6’s rear seats recline. The Taycan’s rear seats don’t recline.

The EV6 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Taycan Cross Turismo with its rear seat up (24.4 vs. 18.8 cubic feet). The EV6 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Taycan Cross Turismo with its rear seat folded (46.7 vs. 45.8 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the EV6’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Taycan doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

On a hot day the EV6’s driver can lower the front windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Taycan can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The EV6’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Taycan’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Consumer Reports rated the EV6’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the Taycan’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the EV6 has standard extendable sun visors. The Taycan doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The EV6 offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the rear seat, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Taycan doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Insurance will cost less for the EV6 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the EV6 will cost $4620 to $13940 less than the Taycan over a five-year period.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the EV6 first among compact suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Taycan isn’t in the top three in its category.

The EV6 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023. The Taycan has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the EV6 as the 2023 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Taycan has never been chosen.

The Kia EV6 outsold the Porsche Taycan by almost five to one during 2024.
