Full-time four-wheel drive is standard on the Silverado EV. Full-time four-wheel drive gives added traction for safety in all conditions, not just off-road, like the only system available on the Tundra. Four-wheel drive of any type costs extra on the Tundra.

The Silverado EV has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the Tundra’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Silverado EV has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Braking automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. Toyota charges extra for Rear Cross Traffic Alert on the Tundra and its not available on the SR.

The Silverado EV (except Work Truck)’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Tundra doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Silverado EV and the Tundra have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and available front parking sensors.

The Chevrolet Silverado EV weighs 2615 to 3705 pounds more than the Toyota Tundra. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Silverado EV’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Tundra’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are over 2 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Toyota dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Silverado EV’s warranty.

The Silverado EV can travel with zero emissions for 408 to 492 miles (dependent on model). The Tundra can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regardless of its engine, regenerative brakes improve the Silverado EV’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. Toyota only offers a regenerative brake system on the Tundra i-FORCE MAX.

For better traction, the Silverado EV has larger standard tires than the Tundra (265/70R18 vs. 245/75R18).

The Silverado EV’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 70 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Tundra SR’s standard 75 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Silverado EV RST has standard 24-inch wheels. The Tundra’s largest wheels are only 22-inches.

The Chevrolet Silverado EV’s wheels have 8 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Toyota Tundra only has 6 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Silverado EV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Tundra doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For superior ride and handling, the Chevrolet Silverado EV has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Toyota Tundra has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The Silverado EV has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Silverado EV flat and controlled during cornering. The Tundra’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The Silverado EV’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the Tundra’s (56.3% to 43.7%). This gives the Silverado EV more stable handling and braking.

The Silverado EV RST handles at .73 G’s, while the Tundra 5.5-foot bed TRD Pro Crew Cab Pickup pulls only .69 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Silverado EV RST executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.3 seconds quicker than the Tundra 5.5-foot bed TRD Pro Crew Cab Pickup (27.8 seconds @ .65 average G’s vs. 29.1 seconds @ .57 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Silverado EV RST w/rear wheel steering’s turning circle is 6.6 feet tighter than the Tundra 5.5-foot bed Crew Cab Pickup’s (42 feet vs. 48.6 feet).

The Silverado EV’s standard Keyless Open and Start allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, unlock the tailgate, and start the truck, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Smart Key System standard on the Tundra doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Silverado EV has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the Tundra and isn’t available on the Tundra SR.

The Silverado EV (except Work Truck)’s optional Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Tundra doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
