Safety
Warranty
Ferrari pays for scheduled maintenance on the 812 for 4 years and unlimited miles longer than McLaren pays for maintenance for the GT (7/unlimited vs. 3/unlimited).
Engine
The 812’s 6.5 DOHC V12 produces 177 more horsepower (789 vs. 612) and 65 lbs.-ft. more torque (530 vs. 465) than the McLaren GT’s 4.0 turbo V8.
Fuel Economy and Range
The 812 has 5.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the McLaren GT (24.3 vs. 19 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.
The 812 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The McLaren GT doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.
Brakes and Stopping
For better stopping power the 812’s brake rotors are larger than those on the McLaren GT:

Front Rotors |
15.7 inches |
14.4 inches |
Rear Rotors |
14.2 inches |
13.9 inches |
Tires and Wheels
For better traction, the 812 has larger tires than the McLaren GT (F:275/35R20 & R:315/35R20 vs. F:225/35R20 & R:295/30R21).
The 812 offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the McLaren GT; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.
Suspension and Handling
For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the 812’s wheelbase is 1.8 inches longer than on the McLaren GT (107.1 inches vs. 105.3 inches).
The 812’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (47% to 53%) than the McLaren GT’s (42.5% to 57.5%). This gives the 812 more stable handling and braking.
Chassis
The 812’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The McLaren GT doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.
Ergonomics
The 812’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The McLaren GT does not have an oil pressure gauge.
In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The 812 has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The McLaren GT doesn’t offer headlight washers.
Optional smartphone integration for the 812 allows the driver and passengers access to select programs on their smartphones, including reading text messages aloud, playing internet radio stations and other connected activities without taking their eyes off the road or their hands from the wheel. The McLaren GT doesn’t offer factory integrated smartphone program access.
