Both the 296 and the 911 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

Warranty

The 296 comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The 911’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Ferrari pays for scheduled maintenance on the 296 for 6 years and unlimited miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the 911 (7/unlimited vs. 1/10,000).

Engine

The 296’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 431 more horsepower (819 vs. 388) and 215 lbs.-ft. more torque (546 vs. 331) than the 911’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder. The 296’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 317 more horsepower (819 vs. 502) and 215 lbs.-ft. more torque (546 vs. 331) than the 911 GT3’s standard 4.0 DOHC 6-cylinder. The 296’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 301 more horsepower (819 vs. 518) and 204 lbs.-ft. more torque (546 vs. 342) than the 911 GT3 RS/ST’s standard 4.0 DOHC 6-cylinder. Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the 296 has larger tires than the 911 (F:245/35R20 & R:305/35R20 vs. F:235/40R19 & R:295/35R20).

The 296’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 911 Dakar’s standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the 296 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch front wheels are standard on the 911.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the 296’s wheelbase is 5.9 inches longer than on the 911 (102.4 inches vs. 96.5 inches). The 296’s wheelbase is 5.7 inches longer than on the 911 GT3 (102.4 inches vs. 96.7 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the 296 is 2.8 inches wider in the front and 2.6 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the 911.

The 296 Assetto Fiorano GTB handles at 1.15 G’s, while the 911 T Coupe pulls only 1.05 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The 296 Assetto Fiorano GTB executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.6 seconds quicker than the 911 T Coupe (21.7 seconds @ 1.04 average G’s vs. 23.3 seconds @ .86 average G’s).

Chassis

The 296’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The 911 doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

Ergonomics

The 296 has a standard heads-up display that projects speed and tachometer readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The 911 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The 296 has standard Keyless Entry and Ignition that allows you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the car, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. The 911 GT3 doesn’t offer Comfort Access.

Road and Track performed a comparison test in its February 2024 issue and the Ferrari 296 Assetto Fiorano GTB won out over the Porsche 911 T Coupe.
