Both the RZ and the EX90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Lexus RZ achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2024 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, and pedestrian crash prevention testing. The EX90 has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

Power ranks Lexus above average in initial quality. With 68 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is rated below average.

On the EPA test cycle the RZ gets better mileage than the EX90:

The RZ’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the EX90 are solid, not vented.

For better maneuverability, the RZ’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the EX90’s (36.8 feet vs. 38.8 feet).

The Lexus RZ may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1600 to 1950 pounds less than the Volvo EX90.

The RZ is 9.1 inches shorter than the EX90, making the RZ easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The RZ has 1.2 inches more front legroom and 1 inch more rear legroom than the EX90.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Lexus service is better than Volvo. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in service department satisfaction. With a 48% lower rating, Volvo is ranked 23rd.

The RZ’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The EX90’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The Lexus RZ has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are not standard on all versions of the EX90.

The RZ has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The EX90 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The RZ’s optional Advanced Park can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Advanced Park will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The EX90’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

The RZ is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The EX90 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
