The LS’ driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the LS and the Flying Spur have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The LS comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Flying Spur’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the LS 3 years longer than Bentley covers the Flying Spur. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Flying Spur ends after only 3 years.

The LS’ corrosion warranty is 3 years longer than the Flying Spur’s (6 vs. 3 years).

There are over 5 times as many Lexus dealers as there are Bentley dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the LS’ warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the LS’ reliability 20 points higher than the Flying Spur.

The LS can travel with zero emissions on a full charge for .6 miles. The Flying Spur can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

The LS Hybrid’s standard fuel tank has 1.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Flying Spur (22.2 vs. 21 gallons).

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Lexus LS, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Flying Spur.

The LS 500h has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer a CVT.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the LS can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

For better maneuverability, the LS’ turning circle is 3.9 feet tighter than the Flying Spur’s (36.8 feet vs. 40.7 feet). The LS AWD’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the Flying Spur’s (39.4 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The Lexus LS may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 750 to 1150 pounds less than the Bentley Flying Spur.

The LS is 3.2 inches shorter than the Flying Spur, making the LS easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Lexus LS amounts to more than styling. The LS has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .28 Cd. That is lower than the Flying Spur (.298) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the LS get better fuel mileage.

The LS uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The LS has .3 inches more front shoulder room and 1.4 inches more rear shoulder room than the Flying Spur.

The LS has a much larger trunk than the Flying Spur (17 vs. 12.2 cubic feet).

If the windows are left open on the LS the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Lexus service department.) The driver of the Flying Spur can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

The LS’ power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Flying Spur’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The LS offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the LS has standard extendable sun visors. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Lexus LS has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Bentley charges extra for Homelink® on the Flying Spur.

The LS offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The LS is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
