Both the Urus and GLS have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Urus has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The GLS’ child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

An active infrared night vision system optional on the Urus helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera and near-infrared lights to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The GLS doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Urus and the GLS have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Urus comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The GLS’ 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

The Urus’ corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the GLS’ (12 vs. 5 years).

Lamborghini pays for scheduled maintenance on the Urus for 5 years and 75000 miles. Lamborghini will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 5 visits). Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the GLS.

The Urus has more powerful engines than the GLS:

On the EPA test cycle the Urus 4.0 turbo V8 running its gasoline engine gets better fuel mileage than the Maybach GLS 600 (14 city/19 hwy vs. 13 city/18 hwy).

The Urus SE can travel with zero emissions for 37 miles. The GLS can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

For better stopping power the Urus’ brake rotors are larger than those on the GLS:

The Urus has standard heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The GLS doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The Urus stops much shorter than the GLS:

For better traction, the Urus has larger front standard tires than the GLS (F:285/45R21 & R:315/40R21 vs. F:275/45R21 & R:315/40R21).

The Urus’ optional 285/35R23 front and 325/30R23 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GLS’ optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

The Urus has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The GLS doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The Urus Performante handles at 1.04 G’s, while the GLS 580 pulls only .90 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Urus Performante executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 4.1 seconds quicker than the GLS 580 (23.1 seconds @ .87 average G’s vs. 27.2 seconds @ .66 average G’s).

The Lamborghini Urus may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 700 to 800 pounds less than the Mercedes GLS.

The Urus S is 3.6 inches shorter than the GLS 450, making the Urus easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Urus is 8.1 inches shorter in height than the GLS, making the Urus much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The Urus has a much larger cargo volume than the GLS with its rear seat up (21.8 vs. 17.4 cubic feet).

The Urus’ instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The GLS does not have an oil pressure gauge.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Urus offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The GLS doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Urus’ optional Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The GLS’ automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.
