The Q8’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The E-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Audi Q8 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar E-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Q8’s standard pretensioning seatbelts also sense rear collisions and remove slack from the seatbelts to help protect the occupants from whiplash and other injuries. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Q8 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Q8 has standard Maneuver Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The E-Pace doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The Q8 has Car-to-X Services, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Q8 Prestige helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Q8 and the E-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Audi Q8 weighs 1124 pounds more than the Jaguar E-Pace. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Audi Q8 achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2024 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, and pedestrian crash prevention testing. The E-Pace has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

Warranty

The Q8’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the E-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 2 times as many Audi dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Q8’s warranty.

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Q8’s reliability 14 points higher than the E-Pace.

Engine

The Q8’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 89 more horsepower (335 vs. 246) and 100 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 269) than the E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the Audi Q8 is faster than the Jaguar E-Pace:

Fuel Economy and Range

The Q8 has 4.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the E-Pace (22.5 vs. 17.7 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Q8 has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the E-Pace. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Q8’s brake rotors are larger than those on the E-Pace:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Q8 has larger tires than the E-Pace (285/45R21 vs. 235/55R19). The Q8’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the E-Pace (285/45R21 vs. 245/45R20).

The Q8’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the E-Pace’s standard 55 series tires. The Q8’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the E-Pace’s optional 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Q8 has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the E-Pace. The Q8’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the E-Pace.

Suspension and Handling

The Q8 has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The E-Pace’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

The Q8 has a standard automatic load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Q8’s wheelbase is 12.3 inches longer than on the E-Pace (117.9 inches vs. 105.6 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Q8 is 1.9 inches wider in the front and 2.5 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the E-Pace.

The Q8 Prestige handles at .83 G’s, while the E-Pace SE pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Q8 Prestige executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.5 seconds quicker than the E-Pace SE (26.9 seconds @ .69 average G’s vs. 28.4 seconds @ .6 average G’s).

Passenger Space

The Q8 has 1.5 inches more front legroom, 3.4 inches more front shoulder room, 5.9 inches more rear legroom and 2.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the E-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Q8’s rear seats recline. The E-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Q8 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the E-Pace with its rear seat up (30.5 vs. 22.4 cubic feet). The Q8 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the E-Pace with its rear seat folded (60.7 vs. 49.5 cubic feet).

The Q8’s cargo area is larger than the E-Pace’s in almost every dimension:

Towing

The Q8’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the E-Pace’s (7700 vs. 3968 pounds).

Servicing Ease

The engine in the Q8 is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the E-Pace. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the E-Pace, the Q8 Prestige has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

If the windows are left open on the Q8 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the E-Pace can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Q8 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the E-Pace.

Laser headlights, standard on the Q8 Prestige, produce their light by firing blue lasers through phosphorus, a process that uses one-half the power of the E-Pace’s LED headlights. Laser headlights can have double the range of LEDs with a much smaller surface area.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Q8 has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The E-Pace doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Q8 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The E-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Q8 has standard extendable sun visors. The E-Pace doesn’t offer extendable visors.

A manual rear sunshade is optional in the Q8 and power rear side window sunshades are optional in the Q8 (except Premium) to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the Q8 Premium Plus/Prestige keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The E-Pace doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Q8 Prestige has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the E-Pace.

The Q8 Prestige’s Park Assist Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist Plus will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The E-Pace doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Economic Advantages

The Q8 will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Q8 will retain 51.58% to 51.73% of its original price after five years, while the E-Pace only retains 51.25%.

Recommendations

The Audi Q8/SQ8/RS Q8 outsold the Jaguar E-Pace by over 29 to one during 2023.
