Both the F-Pace and Forester have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The F-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Forester’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The F-Pace has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the Forester’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the F-Pace has standard Rear Traffic Warning and Rear Traffic Braking automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. Subaru charges extra for Rear Cross Traffic Alert on the Forester and its not available on the Base and the Forester’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert does not include automatic braking.

Both the F-Pace and the Forester have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and available around view monitors.

The F-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Forester’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

The F-Pace’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Forester’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the F-Pace for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Subaru doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Forester.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the F-Pace has a standard 800-amp battery. The Forester’s 620-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

The battery on the F-Pace is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the F-Pace’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The Forester’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

The F-Pace P250’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 66 more horsepower (246 vs. 180) and 91 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 178) than the Forester’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder. The F-Pace P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid produces 215 more horsepower (395 vs. 180) and 228 lbs.-ft. more torque (406 vs. 178) than the Forester’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder. The F-Pace SVR’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8 produces 387 more horsepower (567 vs. 180) and 338 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 178) than the Forester’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the F-Pace P400 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid is faster than the Subaru Forester:

Regenerative brakes improve the F-Pace’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Forester doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The F-Pace has 5.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Forester (21.9 vs. 16.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better traction, the F-Pace has larger standard tires than the Forester (255/55R19 vs. 225/60R17). The F-Pace SVR’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Forester (F:265/45R21 & R:295/40R21 vs. 235/50R19).

The F-Pace’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Forester’s standard 60 series tires. The F-Pace SVR’s optional 265/40R22 front and 295/35R22 rear tires have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile than the Forester Sport/Touring’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the F-Pace has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Forester. The F-Pace’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels on the Forester Sport/Touring.

Having a flat tire is dangerous, inconvenient and expensive. The self-sealing tires available on the F-Pace can automatically seal most punctures up to 3/16 of an inch, effectively preventing most flat tires. The Forester doesn’t offer self-sealing tires.

The F-Pace offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Forester; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The F-Pace offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Forester’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The F-Pace has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Forester doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the F-Pace’s wheelbase is 8 inches longer than on the Forester (113.1 inches vs. 105.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the F-Pace is 3 inches wider in the front and 3.3 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Forester.

The F-Pace’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the Forester’s (57% to 43%). This gives the F-Pace more stable handling and braking.

The F-Pace SVR handles at .89 G’s, while the Forester Sport pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The F-Pace SVR executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.6 seconds quicker than the Forester Sport (25 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 27.6 seconds @ .61 average G’s).

The F-Pace uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Forester doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The F-Pace has a much larger cargo volume than the Forester with its rear seat up (32.1 vs. 29.6 cubic feet).

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the F-Pace. The Forester doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The F-Pace’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Forester’s (5291 vs. 1500 pounds).

The F-Pace uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Forester uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Forester Touring, the F-Pace offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The F-Pace offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, warning and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Forester doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The power windows standard on both the F-Pace and the Forester have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the F-Pace is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The Forester prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The F-Pace’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Forester’s standard passenger windows don’t open or close automatically. With the Forester Premium/Sport/Limited/Touring’s power windows, only the front windows open or close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the F-Pace the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Forester can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The F-Pace’s standard Keyless Start and Entry allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Access and Start is only offered on the Forester Premium/Sport/Limited/Touring, and doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The F-Pace’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Forester’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the F-Pace to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Forester doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The F-Pace SVR has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Forester doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The F-Pace’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Subaru only offers heated mirrors on the Forester Premium/Sport/Limited/Touring.

Unlike the Subaru Forester’s fixed side view mirrors, the Jaguar F-Pace has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave.

The F-Pace has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Forester Limited/Touring.

The Jaguar F-Pace has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Subaru charges extra for Homelink® on the Forester.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jaguar F-Pace has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Forester Premium/Sport/Limited/Touring offers wireless charging.

The F-Pace’s optional Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The Forester doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
