Compare the2025 Infiniti QX80VS 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe

For enhanced safety, the front and second-row seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX80 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Chevrolet Tahoe doesn’t offer pretensioners for its second-row seat belts.

The Infiniti QX80 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Tahoe doesn’t offer knee airbags.

With its standard ProPILOT Assist 1.1, the Infiniti QX80 is better at preventing collisions with pedestrians than the Chevrolet Tahoe, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety:

The QX80’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Tahoe doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the QX80 and the Tahoe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

The Infiniti QX80 achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2024 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, and pedestrian crash prevention testing. The Tahoe is not a “Top Safety Pick” for 2024.

The QX80 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Tahoe’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 24,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the QX80 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Chevrolet covers the Tahoe. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Tahoe ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The QX80’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the Tahoe’s (7/unlimited vs. 6/100,000).

Infiniti pays for scheduled maintenance on the QX80 for 3 years and 45000 miles. Infiniti will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Chevrolet only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Tahoe.

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the QX80 has an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of some of the engines in the Tahoe.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Infiniti 7 places higher in reliability than Chevrolet.

The QX80’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 95 more horsepower (450 vs. 355) and 133 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 383) than the Tahoe’s standard 5.3 V8. The QX80’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 30 more horsepower (450 vs. 420) and 56 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 460) than the Tahoe’s optional 6.2 V8.

As tested in Car and Driver the Infiniti QX80 is faster than the Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3 V8:

For better stopping power the QX80’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the Tahoe:

For better traction, the QX80 has larger tires than the Tahoe (275/60R20 vs. 265/65R18).

The QX80’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Tahoe’s standard 65 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the QX80 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Tahoe.

The QX80 has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the QX80 flat and controlled during cornering. The Tahoe’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The QX80 has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Tahoe doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

The QX80 Autograph AWD handles at .78 G’s, while the Tahoe Z71 4x4 pulls only .63 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For greater off-road capability the QX80 Pure has a 1.6 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Tahoe (9.6 vs. 8 inches), allowing the QX80 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The QX80 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Tahoe doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the QX80 Autograph AWD is quieter than the Tahoe Z71 4x4 (65 vs. 66 dB).

The QX80 has 2.3 inches more third row hip room and .4 inches more third row shoulder room than the Tahoe.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the QX80’s middle and third row seats recline. The Tahoe’s third row seats don’t recline.

The QX80 has a standard third row seat which folds flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The Tahoe doesn’t offer seats that fold into the floor.

The QX80’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Tahoe’s (8500 vs. 7700 pounds).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than Chevrolet. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti 6th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 21% lower rating, Chevrolet is ranked 14th.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Tahoe LT/RST/Z71/Premier/High Country, the QX80 Sensory/Autograph has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The QX80’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Tahoe’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The QX80’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the Tahoe’s headlights are rated “Poor.”

The Infiniti QX80 has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors costs extra on the Tahoe and aren't offered on the LS.

The QX80 has standard heated front, second and third row seats; a heated third row is standard on the QX80 Autograph, which keep the driver and passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Chevrolet doesn’t offer heated seats in the third row of the Tahoe.

Standard air conditioned seats in the front and second seat rows keep the QX80 Luxe/Sensory/Autograph’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Tahoe doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.

The QX80 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Tahoe.

The QX80 Sensory/Autograph has standard massaging front and rear seats (rear massaging seats on Autograph). Massaging seats aren’t available in the Tahoe.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Infiniti QX80 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Tahoe LT/RST/Z71/Premier/High Country offers wireless charging.
