The Taycan’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The I-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Porsche Taycan are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Porsche Taycan has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Taycan has standard multi-collision braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Taycan has a standard Maneuvering Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Taycan helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The Taycan offers an optional Surround View System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The I-Pace only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Taycan and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Taycan’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the I-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 35 percent more Porsche dealers than there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Taycan’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Taycan first among upper midsize premium cars in their 2024 Initial Quality Study. The I-Pace isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in initial quality. With 16 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is rated lower.

The Taycan Performance Battery’s standard electric motor produces 8 more horsepower (402 vs. 394) than the I-Pace’s electric motors. The Taycan 4 Performance Battery’s standard electric motors produces 8 more horsepower (402 vs. 394) than the I-Pace’s electric motors. The Taycan Performance Battery Plus’ standard electric motor produces 35 more horsepower (429 vs. 394) than the I-Pace’s electric motors. The Taycan 4 Performance Battery Plus’ standard electric motors produces 35 more horsepower (429 vs. 394) than the I-Pace’s electric motors. The Taycan Turbo GT’s standard electric motors produces 625 more horsepower (1019 vs. 394) and 402 lbs.-ft. more torque (914 vs. 512) than the I-Pace’s electric motors.

The Taycan offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The I-Pace doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For better traction, the Taycan’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the I-Pace (F:265/35R21 & R:305/30R21 vs. 255/40R22).

The Taycan’s standard 275/45R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the I-Pace’s standard 50 series tires. The Taycan’s optional 265/35R21 front and 305/30R21 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the I-Pace’s optional 40 series tires.

The Taycan AWD offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The I-Pace doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The Taycan offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Jaguar doesn’t offer an active suspension on the I-Pace.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Taycan is 2.4 inches wider in the front and .7 inches wider in the rear than the track on the I-Pace.

The Taycan 4 Cross Turisimo handles at .89 G’s, while the I-Pace HSE pulls only .87 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Taycan 4 Cross Turisimo executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the I-Pace HSE (25 seconds @ .76 average G’s vs. 25.6 seconds @ .74 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Taycan w/Rear Axle Steering’s turning circle is 3.8 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (36.7 feet vs. 40.5 feet). The Taycan Cross Turismo’s turning circle is 1.1 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (39.4 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Taycan has a greater minimum ground clearance than the I-Pace (6.9 vs. 6.5 inches), allowing the Taycan to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Taycan 4x4 is 7 inches shorter in height than the I-Pace, making the Taycan much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Porsche service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks Porsche second in service department satisfaction. With a 25% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 10th.

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the I-Pace, the Taycan offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position (with optional power wheel adjuster), outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Taycan has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Taycan offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The I-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights. The Taycan also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The Taycan offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the I-Pace.

The Taycan’s optional Active Parking Support can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Optional Remote ParkAssist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The I-Pace’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park and it doesn’t offer remote control parking.

The Porsche Taycan comes in sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the Jaguar I-Pace isn’t available as a sedan.

The Taycan is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

The Taycan will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Taycan will retain 48.47% to 55.71% of its original price after five years, while the I-Pace only retains 47.85%.

The Porsche Taycan outsold the Jaguar I-Pace by almost 15 to one during 2023.
