For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Porsche Taycan have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The GMC Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The Taycan’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Porsche Taycan has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Taycan has standard front and rear seat side-impact airbags and head airbags, which act as a forgiving barrier between the passengers and the door. Combined with high-strength steel door beams this system increases protection from broadside collisions. The Hummer EV SUV doesn't offer rear-seat side-impact airbags, only ones for front seat occupants.

The Taycan has standard multi-collision braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Taycan helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Taycan and Hummer EV SUV have Rear Cross Traffic Alert, but the Taycan has automatic rear cross-traffic braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Hummer EV SUV’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Taycan and the Hummer EV SUV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Taycan comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Hummer EV SUV’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The Taycan’s corrosion warranty is 6 years and unlimited miles longer than the Hummer EV SUV’s (12/unlimited vs. 6/100,000).

Porsche pays for scheduled maintenance on the Taycan for 2 years and 24,000 miles. Porsche will pay for cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. GMC only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Hummer EV SUV.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Taycan first among upper midsize premium cars in their 2024 Initial Quality Study. The Hummer EV SUV isn’t in the top three in its category.

Power ranks Porsche above average in initial quality. With 29 more problems per 100 vehicles, GMC is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Porsche vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Porsche 16 places higher in reliability than GMC.

The Taycan Turbo GT’s electric motors produces 189 more horsepower (1019 vs. 830) than the Hummer EV SUV 3X’s optional electric motors.

The Taycan has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better stopping power the Taycan’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Hummer EV SUV:

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Taycan has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Hummer EV SUV.

The Taycan AWD offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. The Porsche Taycan may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 3700 to 4250 pounds less than the GMC Hummer EV SUV.

The Taycan Cross Turismo is 10.9 inches shorter than the Hummer EV SUV, making the Taycan easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Taycan is 9.7 inches narrower on average than the Hummer EV SUV, making the Taycan easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Taycan Cross Turismo’s liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The Hummer EV SUV’s swing out door blocks loading from the passenger’s side.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Taycan’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its cargo door, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The Taycan has a higher maximum payload capacity than the Hummer EV SUV (1596 vs. 1460 lbs.).

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Porsche service is better than GMC. J.D. Power ranks Porsche second in service department satisfaction. With a 42% lower rating, GMC is ranked 20th.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Hummer EV SUV, the Taycan offers an optional passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position (with optional power wheel adjuster), outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Taycan offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Taycan’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Hummer EV SUV’s power windows’ switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Taycan has a standard rear wiper. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Taycan offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer cornering lights. The Taycan also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The Taycan offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Hummer EV SUV.

The Taycan’s optional Active Parking Support can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Optional Remote ParkAssist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Hummer EV SUV’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

The Porsche Taycan comes in sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the GMC Hummer EV SUV isn’t available as a sedan.

The Taycan is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
