Both the 718 Cayman and the Supra have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes and blind spot warning systems.

The 718 Cayman comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Supra’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The 718 Cayman’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the Supra’s (12 vs. 5 years).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in initial quality. With 20 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated lower.

The 718 Cayman GTS 4.0’s standard 4.0 GT3 6-cylinder produces 12 more horsepower (394 vs. 382) than the Supra’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder. The 718 Cayman GT4 RS’ standard 4.0 DOHC 6-cylinder produces 111 more horsepower (493 vs. 382) than the Supra’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder.

Motor Trend magazine performs a classic 0 to 100 MPH and back to 0 MPH performance test. The Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 completed this feat in only 12.2 seconds. It took the Toyota Supra 3.0 Premium 14.2 seconds.

The flat cylinder configuration of the boxer engine in the 718 Cayman lowers its center of gravity, enhancing handling stability. The Supra doesn’t offer a boxer engine configuration.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the 718 Cayman GT4 RS/GTS 4.0’s fuel efficiency. The Supra doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The 718 Cayman’s optional fuel tank has 3.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Supra (16.9 vs. 13.7 gallons).

The 718 Cayman stops much shorter than the Supra:

The 718 Cayman GT4 RS’ 295/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Supra’s 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the 718 Cayman offers optional 20-inch wheels. The Supra’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The 718 Cayman has a much larger trunk than the Supra (15 vs. 10.2 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the 718 Cayman’s available trunk can be opened just by holding your hand near the emblem on the trunk, leaving your hands completely free. The Supra doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The 718 Cayman’s optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Supra doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The 718 Cayman’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Supra does not have an oil pressure gauge.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the 718 Cayman offers an optional rear wiper. The Supra doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The 718 Cayman has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Supra doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the 718 Cayman has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Supra doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The 718 Cayman’s sun-visors swivel front-to-side to block glare from the side windows. The Supra’s visors are fixed into the windshield header.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the 718 Cayman keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Supra doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the 718 Cayman’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The Supra doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The 718 Cayman will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the 718 Cayman will retain 59.55% to 67.21% of its original price after five years, while the Supra only retains 53.89% to 67.06%.

The 718 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 19 more times in the last 20 years. The Supra hasn’t been picked since 2023, and the Supra has only been chosen 5 times.
