Compare the2025 Porsche 718 BoxsterVS 2024 McLaren 750S

The 718 Boxster PDK offers optional Porsche Active Safe, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The 750S doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

The 718 Boxster has standard Porsche Connect, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The 750S doesn’t offer a GPS response system, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the 718 Boxster and the 750S have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras and available blind spot warning systems.

The 718 Boxster comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The 750S’ 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

The 718 Boxster’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the 750S’ (12 vs. 10 years).

There are almost 8 times as many Porsche dealers as there are McLaren dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the 718 Boxster’s warranty.

The flat cylinder configuration of the boxer engine in the 718 Boxster lowers its center of gravity, enhancing handling stability. The 750S doesn’t offer a boxer engine configuration.

On the EPA test cycle the 718 Boxster gets better mileage than the 750S:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0/Spyder’s fuel efficiency. The 750S doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the 718 Boxster’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The 750S doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the 718 Boxster offers optional 20-inch wheels. The 750S’ largest wheels are only 19-inches in the front and 20-inches in the rear.

The 718 Boxster’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (45.5% to 54.5%) than the 750S’ (41.2% to 58.8%). This gives the 718 Boxster more stable handling and braking.

For better maneuverability, the 718 Boxster’s turning circle is 3.9 feet tighter than the 750S’ (36.1 feet vs. 40 feet). The 718 Spyder RS’ turning circle is 2.6 feet tighter than the 750S’ (37.4 feet vs. 40 feet).

The 718 Boxster is 7.5 inches shorter than the 750S, making the 718 Boxster easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

To almost totally eliminate engine vibration in the passenger area, the 718 Boxster w/Sport Chrono has an electronically controlled liquid-filled front engine mount and conventional liquid-filled engine mounts (standard liquid front mount on other versions of the 718 Boxster). A computer-controlled electric current in the liquid changes its viscosity, allowing the mount to dampen the engine completely at all RPMs. The 750S uses conventional solid rubber engine mounts.

The 718 Boxster has a much larger trunk with its top down than the 750S Spider (9.7 vs. 7.3 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the 718 Boxster’s available trunk can be opened just by holding your hand near the emblem on the trunk, leaving your hands completely free. The 750S doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The 718 Boxster’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The 750S does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The 718 Boxster’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The 750S has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the 718 Boxster keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The 750S doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the 718 Boxster’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The 750S doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

To help keep the driver’s hands on the wheel, the 718 Boxster offers optional steering wheel controls for the radio. The 750S doesn’t offer steering wheel audio controls.

The Porsche 718 Boxster has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the overhead console. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. McLaren charges extra for Homelink® on the 750S.

The 718 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 19 more times in the last 20 years. The 750S has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
