The Fiat 500e has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The EX30 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Both the 500e and the EX30 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available blind spot warning systems, front parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

The 500e has a standard locking charge port with a power remote release convenient to the driver. The EX30 doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

Tires and Wheels

The 500e’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the EX30’s standard 55 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the 500e’s turning circle is 3.6 feet tighter than the EX30’s (31.5 feet vs. 35.1 feet).

Chassis

The Fiat 500e may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 900 to 1200 pounds less than the Volvo EX30.

The 500e is 1 foot, 11.7 inches shorter than the EX30, making the 500e easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The 500e is 6.4 inches narrower than the EX30, making the 500e easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Ergonomics

The 500e’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The EX30’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

The 500e’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The EX30’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.
