The 500e has a standard locking charge port with a power remote release convenient to the driver. The Solterra doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.
Tires and Wheels
The 500e’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Solterra Premium’s standard 60 series tires. The 500e’s tires are lower profile than the Solterra Limited/Touring’s 50 series tires.
Suspension and Handling
For better maneuverability, the 500e’s turning circle is 5.2 feet tighter than the Solterra’s (31.5 feet vs. 36.7 feet).
Chassis
The Fiat 500e may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1400 to 1550 pounds less than the Subaru Solterra.
The 500e is 3 feet, 5.6 inches shorter than the Solterra, making the 500e easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.
The 500e is 7.2 inches narrower than the Solterra, making the 500e easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.
Passenger Space
The 500e has .5 inches more front headroom and .4 inches more rear hip room than the Solterra.
Servicing Ease
The 500e uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Solterra uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.
Ergonomics
The 500e’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Solterra Premium’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.
To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the 500e has a standard rear wiper. The Solterra doesn’t offer a rear wiper.
To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Fiat 500e has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Solterra.
