The G-Class’ pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The QX80 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The G-Class has a standard Post Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The QX80 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the G-Class. But it costs extra on the QX80.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the G-Class’ standard Downhill Speed Regulation allows you to creep down safely. The QX80 doesn’t offer Downhill Speed Regulation.

Both the G-Class and QX80 have rear cross-traffic warning, but the G-Class has Active Brake Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The QX80’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

There are almost 2 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Infiniti dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the G-Class’ warranty.

Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are more reliable than Infiniti With 1 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Mercedes higher than Infiniti.

The AMG G 63’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 127 more horsepower (577 vs. 450) and 111 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 516) than the QX80’s 3.5 turbo V6. The G 580’s standard electric motors produces 129 more horsepower (579 vs. 450) and 343 lbs.-ft. more torque (859 vs. 516) than the QX80’s 3.5 turbo V6.

As tested in Car and Driver the AMG G 63 4.0 turbo V8 is faster than the Infiniti QX80:

On the EPA test cycle the G 550 running its gasoline engine gets better fuel mileage than the QX80 AWD (17 city/19 hwy vs. 15 city/19 hwy).

The G 580 can travel with zero emissions for 239 miles. The QX80 can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the G-Class AMG 63’s fuel efficiency. The QX80 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the G-Class’ fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The QX80 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The G-Class has 2.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the QX80 (26.4 vs. 23.6 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The G-Class has a standard locking fuel door and a locking charge port on the 580 which lock and unlock with the power locks. The QX80 doesn’t offer a locking fuel filler door. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and a locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

The G-Class AMG 63’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The QX80 doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the G-Class’ optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the QX80 (295/40R22 vs. 275/60R20).

The G-Class’ optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the QX80 Luxe/Sensory/Autograph’s 50 series tires.

The G-Class has a standard full size spare (not available on 580) so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the QX80; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The G-Class AMG 63 offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The QX80 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The AMG G 63 offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Infiniti doesn’t offer an active suspension on the QX80.

The G 580 handles at .80 G’s, while the QX80 Autograph AWD pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Mercedes G-Class may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 400 pounds less than the Infiniti QX80.

The G 550 is 2 feet, 5.2 inches shorter than the QX80, making the G-Class easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The G-Class has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The QX80 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the G-Class has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The QX80 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The G-Class’ Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The QX80 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
