For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes G-Class have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The INEOS Grenadier doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The G-Class’ pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Grenadier doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes G-Class are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The INEOS Grenadier doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the G-Class are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The G-Class has a standard Post Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The G-Class has a standard Maneuvering Brake that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Grenadier doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The G-Class has a standard Surround View System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Grenadier only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

The G-Class’ blind spot warning system uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the G-Class’ standard Rear Cross-Traffic Alert uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side and Active Brake Assist automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

Both the G-Class and the Grenadier have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

The G 580 can travel with zero emissions for 239 miles. The Grenadier can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the G-Class AMG 63’s fuel efficiency. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the G-Class’ fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The G-Class has 2.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the Grenadier (26.4 vs. 23.7 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The G-Class has a tether attaching its gas cap to prevent its loss. The Grenadier’s gas cap isn’t tethered, so it can be left at a gas station if the driver forgets to screw the cap back in.

For better traction, the G-Class has larger standard tires than the Grenadier (265/60R18 vs. 255/70R18). The G-Class’ optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Grenadier (295/40R22 vs. 265/70R17).

The G-Class’ standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Grenadier’s standard 70 series tires. The G-Class’ optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the Grenadier’s 70 series tires.

The Mercedes G-Class’ independent front suspension is much lighter than the INEOS Grenadier’s solid front axle, which allows the G-Class’ wheels to react more quickly and accurately to the road’s surface, improving both ride and handling.

The G-Class AMG 63 offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Grenadier doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The AMG G 63 offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. INEOS doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Grenadier.

The G-Class offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Grenadier’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For much better steering response and tighter handling the G-Class has rack and pinion steering, like Formula racecars, instead of the recirculating-ball type steering of the Grenadier.

The AMG G 63 handles at .75 G’s, while the Grenadier Trailmaster pulls only .60 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The AMG G 63 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3.3 seconds quicker than the Grenadier Trailmaster (28.2 seconds @ .64 average G’s vs. 31.5 seconds @ .49 average G’s).

The Mercedes G-Class may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 250 pounds less than the INEOS Grenadier.

To almost totally eliminate engine vibration in the passenger area, the G-Class AMG 63 has an electronically controlled liquid-filled front engine mount. A computer-controlled electric current in the liquid changes its viscosity, allowing the mount to dampen the engine completely at all RPMs. The Grenadier uses conventional solid rubber engine mounts.

The G-Class uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Grenadier uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

An ASSYST PLUS is standard on the G-Class to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. INEOS doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Grenadier.

The G-Class has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The engine computer on the G-Class automatically engages the starter until the car starts with one twist of the key and disables the starter while the engine is running. The Grenadier’s starter can be accidentally engaged while the engine is running, making a grinding noise and possibly damaging the starter and ring gear.

When three different drivers share the G-Class, the memory system makes it convenient for all three. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver and front passenger’s seat positions, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a memory system.

The G-Class’ standard easy entry and exit feature raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Grenadier doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The G-Class’ power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Grenadier has a lever-type parking brake that has to be strenuously raised to engage properly. It has to be lifted up more and a button depressed to release it.

The G-Class’ standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children in the rear seat from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower all of them with the lock engaged. INEOS does not offer a locking feature on the Grenadier’s standard power windows.

The G-Class’ front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Grenadier’s power windows’ switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

Keyless-Go standard on the G-Class allows you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, unlock the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. The INEOS Grenadier doesn’t offer an advanced key system.

The G-Class’ rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Grenadier’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The G-Class has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Grenadier doesn’t offer headlight washers.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the G-Class detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Grenadier doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the G-Class has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Grenadier doesn’t offer cornering lights.

When the G-Class is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The Grenadier’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

The G-Class’ standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Grenadier doesn’t offer the luxury of automatic dimming mirrors.

Both the Mercedes G-Class and INEOS Grenadier offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The G-Class features standard power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Grenadier’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

The G-Class has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the Grenadier. The G-Class also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Grenadier.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the G-Class keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Grenadier doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the G-Class’ standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the vehicle heater warms up. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The G-Class has a standard center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The Grenadier doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.

The G-Class offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Grenadier.

The G-Class’ standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The Grenadier doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the G-Class has a standard Active Distance Assist Distronic, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Grenadier doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

Compared to the INEOS Grenadier, the Mercedes G-Class eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries with its standard integrated Homelink® universal remote controlled from the rear view mirror.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Mercedes G-Class has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the front center console. The Grenadier doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The G-Class’ Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Grenadier doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
