In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the G-Class are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The G-Class has a standard Post Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The G-Class has a standard Maneuvering Brake that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Purosangue doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The G-Class has a standard Surround View System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Purosangue only offers a rear monitor.

Both the G-Class and Purosangue have rear cross-traffic warning, but the G-Class has Active Brake Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Purosangue’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the G-Class and the Purosangue have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Mercedes G-Class weighs 1072 to 2426 pounds more than the Ferrari Purosangue. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The G-Class comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Purosangue’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

The G-Class’ corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Purosangue’s (5 vs. 3 years).

There are almost 10 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Ferrari dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the G-Class’ warranty.

The Purosangue’s redline is at 8250 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The G-Class has a 6800 to 7200 RPM redline.

The AMG G 63’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 99 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 528) than the Purosangue’s 6.5 DOHC V12. The G 580’s standard electric motors produces 331 lbs.-ft. more torque (859 vs. 528) than the Purosangue’s 6.5 DOHC V12.

On the EPA test cycle the G 580 running on electricity gets better mileage than the Purosangue (68 city/53 hwy MPGe vs. 11 city/15 hwy).

The G 580 can travel with zero emissions for 239 miles. The Purosangue can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the G-Class AMG 63’s fuel efficiency. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the G-Class’ fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes G-Class, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Purosangue.

For better traction, the G-Class has larger standard tires than the Purosangue (265/60R18 vs. 255/35R22). The G-Class’ optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Purosangue (295/40R22 vs. 255/35R22).

The G 550 is 1 foot, 1.8 inches shorter than the Purosangue, making the G-Class easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the G-Class has a standard rear wiper. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Mercedes G-Class has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are not standard on all versions of the Purosangue.

The G-Class has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Purosangue.

The Mercedes G-Class has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Ferrari charges extra for Homelink® on the Purosangue.

The G-Class’ Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Purosangue doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
