For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes G-Class have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Jeep Wagoneer doesn’t offer pretensioners for its second-row seat belts.

The G-Class’ pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Wagoneer doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The G-Class has a standard Post Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Wagoneer doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the G-Class. But it costs extra on the Wagoneer.

Both the G-Class and Wagoneer have rear cross-traffic warning, but the G-Class has Active Brake Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Wagoneer’s Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the G-Class and the Wagoneer have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The G-Class comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Wagoneer’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

On the EPA test cycle the G 550 running its gasoline engine gets better fuel mileage than the Grand Wagoneer 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder (17 city/19 hwy vs. 14 city/20 hwy).

The G 580 can travel with zero emissions for 239 miles. The Wagoneer can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the G-Class AMG 63’s fuel efficiency. The Wagoneer doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regardless of its engine, regenerative brakes improve the G-Class’ fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. Jeep only offers a regenerative brake system on the Wagoneer 5.7 Hemi.

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes G-Class, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Wagoneer.

The G-Class AMG 63’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Wagoneer doesn’t offer launch control.

The G-Class stops much shorter than the Wagoneer:

For better traction, the G-Class’ optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Wagoneer (295/40R22 vs. 285/45R22).

The G-Class’ optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Wagoneer’s optional 45 series tires.

The G-Class AMG 63 offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Wagoneer doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The AMG G 63 offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Jeep doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Wagoneer.

The AMG G 63 handles at .75 G’s, while the Wagoneer Series II 4x4 pulls only .73 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For greater off-road capability the G-Class has a 1.2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Wagoneer (9.5 vs. 8.3 inches), allowing the G-Class to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Mercedes G-Class may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 250 pounds less than the Jeep Wagoneer.

The G 550 is 2 feet, 8.7 inches shorter than the Wagoneer, making the G-Class easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The G-Class’ standard towing capacity is much higher than the Wagoneer’s (7000 vs. 6120 pounds).

The G-Class’ front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Wagoneer’s standard power windows’ rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

If the windows are left open on the G-Class the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Wagoneer can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The G-Class’ standard Keyless-Go allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, unlock the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Enter-N-Go standard on the Wagoneer doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The G-Class’ rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Wagoneer’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The G-Class has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Wagoneer doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Wagoneer’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The G-Class’ standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

The Mercedes G-Class has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors costs extra on the Wagoneer.
