To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Eclipse Cross. But it costs extra on the XT4.

Both the Eclipse Cross and the XT4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Eclipse Cross comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The XT4’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Mitsubishi’s powertrain warranty covers the Eclipse Cross 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Cadillac covers the XT4. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the XT4 ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The Eclipse Cross’ corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the XT4’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Mitsubishi pays for scheduled maintenance on the Eclipse Cross for 2 years and 30,000 miles. Mitsubishi will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 3 visits). Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the XT4.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Mitsubishi vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Mitsubishi above average in initial quality. With 23 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is rated below average.

On the EPA test cycle the Eclipse Cross ES gets better fuel mileage than the XT4 AWD (25 city/28 hwy vs. 23 city/28 hwy).

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross uses regular unleaded gasoline. The XT4 requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

The Eclipse Cross has a standard locking fuel door. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the XT4. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

The Eclipse Cross has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The XT4 doesn’t offer a CVT.

The Eclipse Cross stops shorter than the XT4:

For better maneuverability, the Eclipse Cross AWD’s turning circle is 3.2 feet tighter than the XT4’s (34.8 feet vs. 38 feet).

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 400 pounds less than the Cadillac XT4.

The Eclipse Cross is 5.6 inches narrower than the XT4, making the Eclipse Cross easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Eclipse Cross has .1 inches more front headroom and 2.2 inches more rear hip room than the XT4.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Eclipse Cross’ rear seats recline. The XT4’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Eclipse Cross has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the XT4 with its rear seat up (23.4 vs. 22.5 cubic feet). The Eclipse Cross has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the XT4 with its rear seat folded (50.1 vs. 48.9 cubic feet).

The Eclipse Cross SEL’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches. The XT4’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.
