For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Buick Envista doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Buick Envista doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Envista doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Eclipse Cross has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Envista doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The Eclipse Cross SEL has a standard Multi-View Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Envista only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

Both the Eclipse Cross and the Envista have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The Eclipse Cross comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Envista’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Mitsubishi’s powertrain warranty covers the Eclipse Cross 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Buick covers the Envista. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Envista ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The Eclipse Cross’ corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Envista’s (7/100,000 vs. 6/100,000).

Mitsubishi pays for scheduled maintenance on the Eclipse Cross for 2 years and 30,000 miles. Mitsubishi will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 3 visits). Buick doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Envista.

A hardened steel chain, with no maintenance needs, drives the camshafts in the Eclipse Cross’ engine. A rubber cam drive belt that needs periodic replacement drives the Envista’s camshafts. If the Envista’s belt breaks, the engine could be severely damaged when the pistons hit the opened valves.

The Eclipse Cross’ 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 15 more horsepower (152 vs. 137) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (184 vs. 162) than the Envista’s 1.2 turbo 3-cylinder.

The Eclipse Cross has 2.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Envista (15.8 vs. 13.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Eclipse Cross has a standard locking fuel door. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Envista. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

The Eclipse Cross has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Envista doesn’t offer a CVT.

The Eclipse Cross stops shorter than the Envista:

For superior ride and handling, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Buick Envista has a rear torsion beam axle, with a semi-independent rear suspension.

The Eclipse Cross’ front to rear weight distribution is more even (58% to 42%) than the Envista’s (60% to 40%). This gives the Eclipse Cross more stable handling and braking.

For better maneuverability, the Eclipse Cross AWD’s turning circle is 2.6 feet tighter than the Envista’s (34.8 feet vs. 37.4 feet). The Eclipse Cross AWD’s turning circle is 3.6 feet tighter than the Envista w/18-19” Wheels’ (34.8 feet vs. 38.4 feet).

The Eclipse Cross is 3.6 inches shorter than the Envista, making the Eclipse Cross easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Eclipse Cross has .1 inches more front headroom, .7 inches more front hip room, .2 inches more front shoulder room, 6.2 inches more rear hip room and .6 inches more rear shoulder room than the Envista.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Eclipse Cross’ rear seats recline. The Envista’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Eclipse Cross has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Envista with its rear seat up (23.4 vs. 20.7 cubic feet). The Eclipse Cross has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Envista with its rear seat folded (50.1 vs. 42 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Eclipse Cross’ liftgate can be opened just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Envista doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The Eclipse Cross has a 1500 lbs. towing capacity. The Envista has no towing capacity.

The Eclipse Cross SEL offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, warning and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Envista doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Eclipse Cross’ standard driver’s power window opens or closes with one touch of the window control, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths. The Envista’s power windows’ switch has to be held the entire time to close it fully. The Eclipse Cross SEL’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Eclipse Cross has a standard rear wiper. The Envista doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Both the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and Buick Envista offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The Eclipse Cross offers available power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Envista’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

Both the Eclipse Cross and the Envista offer available heated front seats. The Eclipse Cross SEL also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Envista.

The Eclipse Cross SE/SEL’s standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The Envista doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

With standard Voice Recognition, the Eclipse Cross LE/SE/SEL offers the driver hands free control of the radio and the navigation computer by simply speaking. The Envista doesn’t offer a voice control system.

Compared to the Buick Envista, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries with its optional integrated Homelink® universal remote controlled from the rear view mirror.
