The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid and the Blazer EV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Blazer EV’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid for 2 years and 25000 miles. Toyota will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Chevrolet only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Blazer EV.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota second in reliability, above the industry average. With 27 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chevrolet is ranked fourth.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota second in overall reliability. Chevrolet is ranked 20th.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid produces 14 more horsepower (302 vs. 288) than the Blazer EV’s electric motors.

As tested in Motor Trend the Toyota Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid is faster than the Chevrolet Blazer EV:

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 622 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The Blazer EV’s range is only 283 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 10 minutes for only a 28% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a professionally installed 220-volt charging station can take up to 9 hours and 30 minutes.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has a standard locking fuel door and a locking charge port and which locks and unlocks with the power locks, respectively. The Blazer EV doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and a locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better stopping power the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Blazer EV:

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Blazer EV are solid, not vented.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid stops shorter than the Blazer EV:

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Blazer EV; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid XSE handles at .83 G’s, while the Blazer EV RS pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid XSE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Blazer EV RS (27 seconds @ .65 average G’s vs. 27.4 seconds @ .63 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid SE’s turning circle is 3.6 feet tighter than the Blazer EV’s (36.1 feet vs. 39.7 feet). The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid XSE’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the Blazer EV’s (37.4 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid SE has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Blazer EV (8 vs. 7.9 inches), allowing the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid XSE’s minimum ground clearance is .3 inch higher than on the Blazer EV (8.2 vs. 7.9 inches).

The Toyota Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 950 to 1100 pounds less than the Chevrolet Blazer EV.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid is 11.3 inches shorter than the Blazer EV, making the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid’s rear seats recline. The Blazer EV’s rear seats don’t recline.

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Chevrolet doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Blazer EV.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Blazer EV’s passenger windows don’t close automatically.

If the windows are left open on the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Toyota service department.) The driver of the Blazer EV can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid XSE offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Chevrolet charges extra for heated mirrors on the Blazer EV.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Blazer EV RS.

The Rav4 Plug-In Hybrid XSE offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Blazer EV doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
