Compare the2025 MINI Countryman SEVS 2024 Jaguar I-Pace

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Countryman SE are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The MINI Countryman SE has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Countryman SE has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Countryman SE has standard Rear Collision Prevention that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Countryman SE’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The I-Pace doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

The Countryman SE offers an optional 360-degree camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The I-Pace only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Countryman SE and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Countryman SE’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the I-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that MINI vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks MINI above average in initial quality. With 6 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is rated lower.

On the EPA test cycle the Countryman SE gets better mileage than the I-Pace:

For better maneuverability, the Countryman SE’s turning circle is 1.8 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (38.7 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Countryman SE has a greater minimum ground clearance than the I-Pace (7.4 vs. 6.5 inches), allowing the Countryman SE to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Countryman SE is 9.3 inches shorter than the I-Pace, making the Countryman SE easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Countryman SE is 6.6 inches narrower than the I-Pace, making the Countryman SE easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Countryman SE has .8 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more rear legroom and .2 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Countryman SE’s rear seats recline. The I-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Countryman SE has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the I-Pace with its rear seat folded (56.2 vs. 53.6 cubic feet).

The Countryman SE’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the I-Pace’s (2646 vs. 1653 pounds).

Optional Trailer Stabilization Control on the Countryman SE uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The I-Pace doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that MINI service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks MINI fourth in service department satisfaction. With a 15% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 10th.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Countryman SE has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Countryman SE has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The I-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The Countryman SE offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the I-Pace.

The Countryman SE’s optional Parking Assistant Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Control Parking will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The I-Pace’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park and it doesn’t offer remote control parking.

The MINI Countryman outsold the Jaguar I-Pace by almost 25 to one during 2023.
