Compare the2025 MINI Countryman SEVS 2024 Honda Prologue

The Countryman SE has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Prologue doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Countryman SE. But it costs extra on the Prologue.

The Countryman SE’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Prologue doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Countryman SE and the Prologue have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Countryman SE comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Prologue’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The Countryman SE’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the Prologue’s (12 vs. 5 years).

MINI pays for scheduled maintenance on the Countryman SE for 1 year and 12000 miles longer than Honda pays for maintenance for the Prologue (3/36,000 vs. 2/24,000).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that MINI vehicles are more reliable than Honda vehicles. J.D. Power ranks MINI fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 32 more problems per 100 vehicles, Honda is ranked 18th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that MINI vehicles are more reliable than Honda vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks MINI third in overall reliability. Honda is ranked fifth.

The Countryman SE’s electric motors produces 96 more horsepower (308 vs. 212) and 128 lbs.-ft. more torque (364 vs. 236) than the Prologue’s standard electric motor. The Countryman SE’s electric motors produces 20 more horsepower (308 vs. 288) and 31 lbs.-ft. more torque (364 vs. 333) than the Prologue’s optional electric motors.

On the EPA test cycle the Countryman SE gets better mileage than the Prologue:

Regenerative brakes improve the Countryman SE’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Prologue doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Countryman SE’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Prologue’s standard 60 series tires.

For better maneuverability, the Countryman SE’s turning circle is .9 feet tighter than the Prologue’s (38.7 feet vs. 39.6 feet).

The MINI Countryman SE may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 700 pounds less than the Honda Prologue.

The Countryman SE is 1 foot, 5 inches shorter than the Prologue, making the Countryman SE easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Countryman SE is 5.7 inches narrower than the Prologue, making the Countryman SE easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Optional Trailer Stabilization Control on the Countryman SE uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Prologue doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that MINI service is better than Honda. J.D. Power ranks MINI fourth in service department satisfaction. With a 21% lower rating, Honda is ranked 12th.

The Countryman SE’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Prologue’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The Countryman SE’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Prologue offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The MINI Countryman SE has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are not standard on all versions of the Prologue.

The Countryman SE offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Prologue.

The Countryman SE’s optional Parking Assistant Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Control Parking will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Prologue doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
