For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The AMG E-Class Sedan’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The AMG E-Class Sedan has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The AMG E-Class Sedan has a standard Maneuvering Brake Function that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The AMG E-Class Sedan has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The AMG E-Class Sedan has Car-to-X Communication, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure or other vehicles.

The AMG E-Class Sedan has a standard Surround View System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Giulia Quadrifoglio only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the AMG E-Class Sedan and Giulia Quadrifoglio have rear cross-traffic warning, but the AMG E-Class Sedan has Active Brake Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Giulia Quadrifoglio’s Rear Cross-Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the AMG E-Class Sedan and the Giulia Quadrifoglio have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available lane departure warning systems.

The Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan weighs 424 pounds more than the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

There are over 3 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Alfa Romeo dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the AMG E-Class Sedan’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are better in initial quality than Alfa Romeo vehicles. With 20 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Mercedes higher than Alfa Romeo.

Engine

The AMG E 53 HYBRID Sedan’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 72 more horsepower (577 vs. 505) and 110 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 443) than the Giulia Quadrifoglio’s 2.9 turbo V6. The AMG E 53 HYBRID Sedan’s optional 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid produces 99 more horsepower (604 vs. 505) and 110 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 443) than the Giulia Quadrifoglio’s 2.9 turbo V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the AMG E 53 HYBRID Sedan running on electricity gets better mileage than the Giulia Quadrifoglio (54 city/65 hwy MPGe vs. 17 city/25 hwy).

The AMG E 53 HYBRID Sedan can travel with zero emissions for 42 miles. The Giulia Quadrifoglio can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the AMG E-Class Sedan’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The AMG E-Class Sedan has 2.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the Giulia Quadrifoglio (17.4 vs. 15.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Mercedes AMG E-Class Sedan, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Giulia Quadrifoglio.

The AMG E-Class Sedan’s optional launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the AMG E-Class Sedan’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Giulia Quadrifoglio:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the AMG E-Class Sedan has larger tires than the Giulia Quadrifoglio (F:265/40R20 & R:295/35R20 vs. F:245/35R19 & R:285/30R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the AMG E-Class Sedan has standard 20-inch wheels. Only 19-inch wheels are available on the Giulia Quadrifoglio. The AMG E-Class Sedan offers optional 21-inch wheels.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the AMG E-Class Sedan’s wheelbase is 5.6 inches longer than on the Giulia Quadrifoglio (116.6 inches vs. 111 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the AMG E-Class Sedan is 2.9 inches wider in the front and 1.4 inches wider in the rear than on the Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Passenger Space

The AMG E-Class Sedan has 4.6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Giulia Quadrifoglio (100 vs. 95.4).

The AMG E-Class Sedan has 1.7 inches more front shoulder room, 1.1 inches more rear legroom and 3.5 inches more rear shoulder room than the Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Cargo Capacity

The AMG E-Class Sedan has a much larger trunk than the Giulia Quadrifoglio (13.1 vs. 12 cubic feet).

With its sedan body style, valet key, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the AMG E-Class offers cargo security. The Giulia Quadrifoglio’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the AMG E-Class Sedan’s power trunk can be opened or closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the Giulia Quadrifoglio, the AMG E-Class Sedan has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The AMG E-Class Sedan offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

If the windows are left open on the AMG E-Class Sedan the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Giulia Quadrifoglio can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The AMG E-Class Sedan’s standard Keyless-Go allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the car, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless-Enter-n-Go standard on the Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

A power rear sunshade and manual rear side window sunshades are optional in the AMG E-Class Sedan to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

When the AMG E-Class Sedan is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The Giulia Quadrifoglio’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the AMG E-Class Sedan keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The AMG E-Class Sedan has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel isn’t available on the Giulia Quadrifoglio w/Sparco Racing Seats.

The AMG E-Class Sedan offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Giulia Quadrifoglio.

The AMG E-Class Sedan’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Model Availability

The Mercedes AMG E-Class comes in sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio isn’t available as a station wagon.

The Mercedes E-Class/CLS outsold the Alfa Romeo Giulia by almost five to one during 2023.
