For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Audi RS Q8 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Jaguar F-Pace doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The RS Q8’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The F-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Audi RS Q8 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar F-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The RS Q8’s standard pretensioning seatbelts also sense rear collisions and remove slack from the seatbelts to help protect the occupants from whiplash and other injuries. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The RS Q8 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The RS Q8 has standard Maneuver Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The F-Pace doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The RS Q8 has Car-to-X Services, a system that seemlesly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the RS Q8 helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the RS Q8 and the F-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The Audi RS Q8 weighs 977 to 1497 pounds more than the Jaguar F-Pace. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The RS Q8’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the F-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 2 times as many Audi dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the RS Q8’s warranty.

Engine

The RS Q8’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 385 more horsepower (631 vs. 246) and 358 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 269) than the F-Pace P250’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The RS Q8’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 236 more horsepower (631 vs. 395) and 221 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 406) than the F-Pace P400’s standard 3.0 turbo/supercharged 6-cylinder hybrid. The RS Q8’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 89 more horsepower (631 vs. 542) and 111 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 516) than the F-Pace SVR’s standard 5.0 supercharged V8.

Fuel Economy and Range

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the RS Q8’s fuel efficiency. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The RS Q8 has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the F-Pace. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

Transmission

The RS Q8’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The F-Pace doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the RS Q8’s brake rotors are larger than those on the F-Pace:

The RS Q8 has standard heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The F-Pace doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the RS Q8 has larger tires than the F-Pace (295/40R22 vs. 255/55R19). The RS Q8’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the F-Pace (295/40R22 vs. 265/45R21).

The RS Q8’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the F-Pace’s standard 55 series tires. The RS Q8’s optional tires have a lower 35 series profile than the F-Pace SVR’s optional 40 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the RS Q8 has standard 22-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the F-Pace. The RS Q8’s optional 23-inch wheels are larger than the 22-inch wheels optional on the F-Pace.

Suspension and Handling

The RS Q8 has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The F-Pace doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the RS Q8 uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the F-Pace, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The RS Q8 offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Jaguar doesn’t offer an active suspension on the F-Pace.

The RS Q8 has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The RS Q8’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the RS Q8’s wheelbase is 4.8 inches longer than on the F-Pace (117.9 inches vs. 113.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the RS Q8 is 1.8 inches wider in the front and 1.5 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the F-Pace.

The RS Q8 handles at .98 G’s, while the F-Pace pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

Passenger Space

The RS Q8 has 1.3 inches more front legroom, 1.8 inches more front shoulder room, 3 inches more rear legroom and 2.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the F-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the RS Q8’s rear seats recline. The F-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The RS Q8’s cargo area is larger than the F-Pace’s in almost every dimension:

Towing

The RS Q8’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the F-Pace’s (7700 vs. 5291 pounds).

Ergonomics

The RS Q8’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The F-Pace’s power mirror switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the RS Q8 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the F-Pace.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the RS Q8 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The F-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the RS Q8 has standard extendable sun visors. The F-Pace doesn’t offer extendable visors.

A manual rear sunshade is standard in the RS Q8 and power rear side window sunshades are optional to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

The RS Q8 offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the F-Pace.

The RS Q8’s optional Park Assist Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Park Assist Plus will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The F-Pace SVR’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park and it doesn’t offer remote control parking.

Recommendations

The Audi Q8/SQ8/RS Q8 outsold the Jaguar F-Pace by almost three to one during 2023.
