For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Cadillac Escalade are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Aston Martin DBX doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Escalade are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The DBX doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Escalade has standard Reverse Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The DBX doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Escalade (except Luxury) helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The DBX doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The Escalade’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The DBX doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The Escalade has standard OnStar®, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to get turn-by-turn driving directions, remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The DBX doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Escalade and the DBX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

The Cadillac Escalade weighs 867 to 1074 pounds more than the Aston Martin DBX. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The Escalade comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck. The DBX’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

Cadillac’s powertrain warranty covers the Escalade 3 years longer than Aston Martin covers the DBX. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the DBX ends after only 3 years.

There are over 16 times as many Cadillac dealers as there are Aston Martin dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Escalade’s warranty.

Reliability

The DBX’s redline is at 7000 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The Escalade has a 6000 RPM redline.

The Escalade has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The DBX doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Escalade second among large premium suvs in their 2024 Initial Quality Study. The DBX isn’t in the top three in its category.

Fuel Economy and Range

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Cadillac Escalade uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The DBX requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

The Escalade has 1.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the DBX (24 vs. 22.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Transmission

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Cadillac Escalade, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a nine-speed automatic is available for the DBX.

Tires and Wheels

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Escalade offers optional 24-inch wheels. The DBX’s largest wheels are only 23-inches.

The Cadillac Escalade’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Aston Martin DBX only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Escalade has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The DBX doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Escalade has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the DBX; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

Suspension and Handling

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Escalade is 1.5 inches wider in the front and 2.6 inches wider in the rear than on the DBX.

For better maneuverability, the Escalade’s turning circle is 1.2 feet tighter than the DBX’s (39.5 feet vs. 40.7 feet). The Escalade with 24” wheels’ turning circle is .1 feet tighter than the DBX’s (40.6 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Escalade Air Suspension has a greater minimum ground clearance than the DBX (10 vs. 9.3 inches), allowing the Escalade to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The front grille of the Escalade uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The DBX doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Escalade (except Luxury) offers available computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The DBX doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Escalade Sport Platinum 4WD is quieter than the DBX707:

Passenger Space

The Escalade offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the DBX can only carry 5.

The Escalade has 59.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the DBX (168.4 vs. 109).

The Escalade has 1.4 inches more front headroom, 2.8 inches more front legroom, 7.1 inches more front shoulder room, .9 inches more rear legroom and 9.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the DBX.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Escalade’s middle row seats recline. The DBX’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Escalade’s cargo area provides more volume than the DBX.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Escalade’s liftgate can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The DBX doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Towing

The Escalade’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the DBX’s (7900 vs. 5940 pounds).

Servicing Ease

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the Escalade to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for oil changes, air filter replacement, and brake pad replacement, based on actual driving conditions. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Aston Martin doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the DBX.

Ergonomics

The Escalade has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The DBX doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Escalade’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The DBX does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Escalade Premium/Platinum/Sport has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, warning, navigation instruction and infotainment readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The DBX doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Escalade has a standard rear wiper. The DBX doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Escalade has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The DBX doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Escalade has standard extendable sun visors. The DBX doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Escalade has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the DBX.

The Escalade Platinum has standard massaging front and optional massaging second row seats. Massaging seats aren’t available in the DBX.

The Cadillac Escalade has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the overhead console. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Aston Martin charges extra for Homelink® on the DBX.

The Escalade has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The DBX doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Escalade’s Adaptive Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, stopping and changing direction automatically. The DBX’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

Model Availability

The Escalade is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The DBX doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Escalade second among large premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The DBX isn’t in the top three.

The Cadillac Escalade outsold the Aston Martin DBX by almost 50 to one during 2023.
