The Jeep Wagoneer S has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

To allow off-road and deep snow capability, Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the Wagoneer S. But it costs extra on the Ioniq 5.

Both the Wagoneer S and the Ioniq 5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Jeep Wagoneer S weighs 876 to 1702 pounds more than the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

There are almost 3 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Hyundai dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Wagoneer S’ warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are more reliable than Hyundai With 8 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Jeep higher than Hyundai.

Engine

The Wagoneer S’ electric motors produces 432 more horsepower (600 vs. 168) and 359 lbs.-ft. more torque (617 vs. 258) than the Ioniq 5 Standard Range’s standard electric motor. The Wagoneer S’ electric motors produces 375 more horsepower (600 vs. 225) and 359 lbs.-ft. more torque (617 vs. 258) than the Ioniq 5 Long Range’s optional electric motor. The Wagoneer S’ electric motors produces 280 more horsepower (600 vs. 320) and 171 lbs.-ft. more torque (617 vs. 446) than the Ioniq 5’s optional electric motors. The Wagoneer S’ electric motors produces 49 lbs.-ft. more torque (617 vs. 568) than the Ioniq 5 N’s standard electric motors.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Wagoneer S’ standard brake rotors are larger than those on the Ioniq 5:

The Wagoneer S’ standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the Ioniq 5 are solid, not vented.

Tires and Wheels

The Wagoneer S’ tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Ioniq 5’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Wagoneer S has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Ioniq 5.

Passenger Space

The Wagoneer S has 1.5 inches more front hip room and .8 inches more rear hip room than the Ioniq 5.

Cargo Capacity

The Wagoneer S 4dr Sport Utility has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Ioniq 5 with its rear seat up (30.6 vs. 27.2 cubic feet). The Wagoneer S 4dr Sport Utility has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Ioniq 5 with its rear seat folded (61 vs. 59.3 cubic feet).

Towing

The Wagoneer S’ standard towing capacity is much higher than the Ioniq 5’s (3400 vs. 0 pounds).

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Wagoneer S uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the Ioniq 5 Limited, the Wagoneer S has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Wagoneer S’ front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Ioniq 5’s standard passenger windows don’t open or close automatically. With the Ioniq 5 SEL/Limited’s power windows, only the front windows open or close automatically.

The Wagoneer S’ standard Keyless Enter-N-Go allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Wagoneer S’ rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Ioniq 5’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Wagoneer S to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Wagoneer S has a standard rear wiper. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Wagoneer S has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The Wagoneer S’ standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Ioniq 5 offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Jeep Wagoneer S has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the Ioniq 5 Limited.

Both the Wagoneer S and the Ioniq 5 have standard heated front seats. The Wagoneer S also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Ioniq 5.

Standard air conditioned seats in the front and rear seats keep the Wagoneer S’ passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Wagoneer S has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Ioniq 5 SEL/Limited.

The Wagoneer S has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Ioniq 5.

The Jeep Wagoneer S has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the driver’s visor. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Hyundai charges extra for Homelink® on the Ioniq 5.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Jeep Wagoneer S has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Ioniq 5 SEL/Limited offers wireless charging.

The Wagoneer S has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Ioniq 5 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
