Dodge’s powertrain warranty covers the Hornet 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the XC40. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the XC40 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The Hornet R/T can travel with zero emissions for 32 miles. The XC40 can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.
To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Dodge Hornet uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The XC40 requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.
Transmission
A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Dodge Hornet, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the XC40.

The Hornet’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the XC40’s optional 45 series tires.
Suspension and Handling
The Hornet offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The XC40’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.
The Hornet R/T handles at .87 G’s, while the XC40 B5 Ultra pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.
