The V60’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The E-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Volvo V60 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar E-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the V60 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Volvo V60 has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The E-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The V60 has a standard Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), which use a specially designed seat to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the WHIPS allows the backrest to travel backwards to cushion the occupants and the headrests move forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. At the same time the pretensioning seatbelts fire, removing slack from the belts. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The V60 has standard Post-impact braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The V60 has standard CTA Auto Brake that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The E-Pace doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

Both the V60 and the E-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Volvo V60 weighs 570 pounds more than the Jaguar E-Pace. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The V60’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the E-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are almost 2 times as many Volvo dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the V60’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the V60’s reliability 30 points higher than the E-Pace.

The V60’s 2.0 turbo/supercharged 4-cylinder hybrid produces 209 more horsepower (455 vs. 246) and 254 lbs.-ft. more torque (523 vs. 269) than the E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Car and Driver the Volvo V60 is faster than the Jaguar E-Pace:

On the EPA test cycle the V60 T8 Polestar Engineered Extended Range running on electricity gets better mileage than the E-Pace P250 (74 city/73 hwy MPGe vs. 20 city/26 hwy).

On the EPA test cycle the V60 T8 Polestar running its gasoline engine gets better fuel mileage than the E-Pace P250 (30 city/33 hwy vs. 20 city/26 hwy).

The V60 T8 Polestar Engineered Extended Range can travel with zero emissions for 41 miles. The E-Pace can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

The V60 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The E-Pace doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The V60 has a standard locking fuel door which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the E-Pace. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

For better stopping power the V60’s brake rotors are larger than those on the E-Pace:

The V60’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the E-Pace’s standard 55 series tires. The V60’s tires are lower profile than the E-Pace’s optional 45 series tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the V60’s wheelbase is 7.5 inches longer than on the E-Pace (113.1 inches vs. 105.6 inches).

The V60 Polestar Engineered handles at .90 G’s, while the E-Pace SE pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the V60’s turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the E-Pace’s (37.1 feet vs. 38.1 feet).

The V60 is 5.3 inches narrower than the E-Pace, making the V60 easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The V60 is 8.5 inches shorter in height than the E-Pace, making the V60 much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The design of the Volvo V60 amounts to more than styling. The V60 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is significantly lower than the E-Pace (.33) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the V60 get better fuel mileage.

The V60 has 2.2 inches more front legroom and .9 inches more rear legroom than the E-Pace.

The V60 has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the E-Pace with its rear seat up (23.2 vs. 22.4 cubic feet). The V60 has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the E-Pace with its rear seat folded (60.5 vs. 49.5 cubic feet).

The V60’s cargo area is larger than the E-Pace’s in almost every dimension:

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the E-Pace, the V60 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

If the windows are left open on the V60 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the E-Pace can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The V60 has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The E-Pace doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the V60 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The E-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights. The V60 also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The V60 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the E-Pace.

The Volvo 60 Series outsold the Jaguar E-Pace by over 26 to one during 2023.
