For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Nissan Rogue have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Cadillac XT4 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The Rogue Platinum has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The XT4 doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

The Rogue’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The XT4 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Rogue and the XT4 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Nissan Rogue is safer than the Cadillac XT4:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Nissan Rogue is safer than the Cadillac XT4:

Warranty

The Rogue’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the XT4’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Nissan pays for scheduled maintenance on the Rogue for 2 years and 24,000 miles. Nissan will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 3 visits). Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the XT4.

There are almost 2 times as many Nissan dealers as there are Cadillac dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Rogue’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Nissan vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Nissan above average in initial quality. With 48 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is rated below average.

On the EPA test cycle the Rogue gets better mileage than the XT4:

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Nissan Rogue uses regular unleaded gasoline. The XT4 requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

Transmission

The Rogue has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The XT4 doesn’t offer a CVT.

Brakes and Stopping

The Rogue stops much shorter than the XT4:

Suspension and Handling

The Rogue Platinum AWD handles at .84 G’s, while the XT4 Sport AWD pulls only .81 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Rogue’s turning circle is 2.6 feet tighter than the XT4’s (35.4 feet vs. 38 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Rogue has a 1.5 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the XT4 (8.2 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the Rogue to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Nissan Rogue may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 150 to 200 pounds less than the Cadillac XT4.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the Rogue Platinum AWD is quieter than the XT4 Sport AWD (73 vs. 75 dB).

Passenger Space

The Rogue has 4.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the XT4 (105.4 vs. 101.3).

The Rogue has 1.7 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more front shoulder room, .9 inches more rear headroom, 3.6 inches more rear hip room and .8 inches more rear shoulder room than the XT4.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Rogue’s rear seats recline. The XT4’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Rogue has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the XT4 with its rear seat up (36.5 vs. 22.5 cubic feet). The Rogue has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the XT4 with its rear seat folded (74.1 vs. 48.9 cubic feet).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Rogue easier. The Rogue’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 29.4 inches, while the XT4’s liftover is 30.5 inches.

The Rogue’s cargo area is larger than the XT4’s in almost every dimension:

A control in the cargo area automatically lowers the Rogue Platinum’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The XT4 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Ergonomics

Consumer Reports rated the Rogue’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the XT4’s headlights, which were rated “Good.”

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Rogue to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The XT4 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Economic Advantages

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Nissan Rogue will be $5376 to $9990 less than for the Cadillac XT4.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends the Nissan Rogue, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Cadillac XT4 isn't recommended.

The Nissan Rogue outsold the Cadillac XT4 by almost 12 to one during 2023.
