Full-time four-wheel drive is standard on the Sierra EV. Full-time four-wheel drive gives added traction for safety in all conditions, not just off-road, like the only system available on the Tundra. Four-wheel drive of any type costs extra on the Tundra.

The Sierra EV has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the Tundra’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Sierra EV has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Braking automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. Toyota charges extra for Rear Cross Traffic Alert on the Tundra and its not available on the SR.

The Sierra EV’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Tundra doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Sierra EV and the Tundra have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

For better traction, the Sierra EV has larger tires than the Tundra (275/50R24 vs. 245/75R18).

The Sierra EV’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Tundra SR’s standard 75 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Sierra EV has standard 24-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Tundra SR. The Tundra’s largest wheels are only 22-inches.

The GMC Sierra EV’s wheels have 8 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Toyota Tundra only has 6 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Sierra EV has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Tundra doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For superior ride and handling, the GMC Sierra EV has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Toyota Tundra has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The Sierra EV’s standard Keyless Open and Start allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, unlock the tailgate, and start the truck, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Smart Key System standard on the Tundra doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The Sierra EV’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Tundra’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The Sierra EV has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Tundra.

The Sierra EV has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the Tundra and isn’t available on the Tundra SR.

The GMC Sierra EV has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the infotainment. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Toyota charges extra for Homelink® on the Tundra.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the GMC Sierra EV has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Tundra and isn’t available on the Tundra SR/SR5.

The Sierra EV’s Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Automatic Parking will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Tundra doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
