In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Sierra 1500 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The F-150 Raptor doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the Sierra 1500 and the F-150 Raptor have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available four-wheel drive, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Sierra 1500’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the F-150 Raptor’s (6 vs. 5 years).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that GMC vehicles are more reliable than Ford With 33 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks GMC higher than Ford.

On the EPA test cycle the Sierra 1500 gets better mileage than the F-150 Raptor:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Sierra 1500 Gas’ fuel efficiency. The F-150 Raptor doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the GMC Sierra 1500 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended with the 6.2 V8 engine for maximum performance). The F-150 Raptor R requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the GMC Sierra 1500 higher (4 to 6 out of 10) than the Ford F-150 Raptor (3 to 6). This means the Sierra 1500 produces up to 23.4 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the F-150 Raptor every 15,000 miles.

The Sierra 1500 SLT/Denali’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the F-150 Raptor’s 70 series tires.

For better load carrying, ride, handling and brake cooling the Sierra 1500 SLT/Denali offers optional 22-inch wheels. The F-150 Raptor’s largest wheels are only 17-inches.

The Sierra 1500 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The F-150 Raptor doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Sierra 1500 Short Box Crew Cab’s wheelbase is 2 inches longer than on the F-150 Raptor (147.4 inches vs. 145.4 inches). The Sierra 1500 Standard Box Crew Cab’s wheelbase is 11.6 inches longer than on the F-150 Raptor (157 inches vs. 145.4 inches).

The Sierra 1500 Short Box AT4X Crew Cab handles at .69 G’s, while the F-150 Raptor R pulls only .68 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Sierra 1500 Short Box Crew Cab’s turning circle is 1.7 feet tighter than the F-150 Raptor’s (46.3 feet vs. 48 feet).

The GMC Sierra 1500 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 1300 pounds less than the Ford F-150 Raptor.

The Sierra 1500 Standard Box Regular Cab is 1 foot, 9.6 inches shorter than the F-150 Raptor, making the Sierra 1500 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Sierra 1500 is 5.4 inches narrower on average than the F-150 Raptor, making the Sierra 1500 easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Sierra 1500 Double Cab has standard seating for 6 passengers; the F-150 Raptor can only carry 5.

On a hot day the Sierra 1500’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the F-150 Raptor can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

When the Sierra 1500 SLT/AT4/Denali is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The F-150 Raptor’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Sierra 1500 AT4X/Denali Ultimate has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the F-150 Raptor.

The GMC Sierra 1500 comes in regular cab, extended cab and crew cab bodystyles; the Ford F-150 Raptor isn’t available as a regular cab or extended cab.

The Sierra 1500 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The F-150 Raptor doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Sierra 1500 third among large light duty pickups in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The F-150 Raptor isn’t in the top three.
