Full-time four-wheel drive is optional on the Silverado 1500. Full-time four-wheel drive gives added traction for safety in all conditions, not just off-road, like the only system available on the Ram 1500.

Both the Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500 offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the Silverado 1500 with Rear Cross Traffic Alert also has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Ram 1500’s Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Silverado 1500 and the Ram 1500 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

The Silverado 1500’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Ram 1500’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are over 20 percent more Chevrolet dealers than there are Ram dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Silverado 1500’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Ram vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 27 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ram is ranked 17th.

The Silverado 1500 has more powerful engines than the Ram 1500:

The Silverado 1500’s 3.0 turbo diesel produces 224 lbs.-ft. more torque (495 vs. 271) than the Ram 1500’s standard 3.6 DOHC V6 hybrid. The Silverado 1500’s 3.0 turbo diesel produces 26 lbs.-ft. more torque (495 vs. 469) than the Ram 1500’s optional 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Silverado 1500 Gas’ fuel efficiency. The Ram 1500 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended with the 6.2 V8 engine for maximum performance). The Ram 1500 Longhorn/Limited/Tungsten requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

A 10-speed automatic is available on the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Ram 1500.

The Silverado 1500 stops shorter than the Ram 1500:

The Silverado 1500 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The Ram 1500’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For greater off-road capability the Silverado 1500 Short Box Crew Cab Lifted has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Ram 1500 5.5-foot Box Crew Cab Air Suspension (11.1 vs. 10.7 inches), allowing the Silverado 1500 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 350 pounds less than the Ram 1500.

The Silverado 1500 Standard Bed Regular Cab is 1 foot, 5.5 inches shorter than the Ram 1500 6-foot Box Quad Cab, making the Silverado 1500 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Silverado 1500 has a higher maximum payload capacity than the Ram 1500 (2530 vs. 2421 lbs.).

The Silverado 1500’s standard front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Ram 1500’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

When the Silverado 1500 ZR2/LTZ/High Country is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Ram 1500’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comes in regular cab, extended cab and crew cab bodystyles; the Ram 1500 isn’t available as a regular cab.
