Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Supra Auto offers optional Emergency Braking that use rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. The M2 doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the Supra and M2 offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the Supra Auto has Parking Support Brake (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The M2’s Cross Traffic Warning doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Supra and the M2 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available blind spot warning systems and rear parking sensors.

Toyota’s powertrain warranty covers the Supra 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than BMW covers the M2. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the M2 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 4 times as many Toyota dealers as there are BMW dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Supra’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota above average in initial quality. With 14 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is rated below average.

On the EPA test cycle the Supra gets better mileage than the M2:

The Toyota Supra comes standard with an automatic transmission, for driver comfort, especially in the city. Automatic costs extra on the M2.

To facilitate fast shifting and allow the driver to focus on the road, the Supra has a standard up-shift light to indicate when the engine is approaching redline. The M2 doesn’t offer an up-shift light.

The Supra stops shorter than the M2:

The Supra 3.0 Premium handles at 1.07 G’s, while the M2 pulls only 1.02 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Supra 3.0 Premium executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the M2 (23.7 seconds @ .82 average G’s vs. 24.1 seconds @ .85 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Supra’s turning circle is 4.9 feet tighter than the M2’s (34.1 feet vs. 39 feet).

The Toyota Supra may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 650 pounds less than the BMW M2.

The Supra is 7.8 inches shorter than the M2, making the Supra easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Supra has .2 inches more front headroom and .4 inches more front legroom than the M2.

Insurance will cost less for the Supra owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Supra will cost $2255 to $6400 less than the M2 over a five-year period.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Toyota Supra will be $7786 to $30066 less than for the BMW M2.
