The CX-5 has standard Whiplash-Reducing Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Whiplash-Reducing Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the CX-5 and the GV80 Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

There are over 2 times as many Mazda dealers as there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the CX-5’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Mazda vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Mazda above average in long-term dependability. With 5 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Genesis is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Mazda vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Mazda 11 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the CX-5 gets better mileage than the GV80 Coupe:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the CX-5 (except Turbo)’s fuel efficiency. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Tires and Wheels

The CX-5 has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the GV80 Coupe; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the CX-5’s turning circle is 3.3 feet tighter than the GV80 Coupe’s (36 feet vs. 39.3 feet).

Chassis

The Mazda CX-5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1300 to 1500 pounds less than the Genesis GV80 Coupe.

The CX-5 is 1 foot, 3.4 inches shorter than the GV80 Coupe, making the CX-5 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The CX-5 is 5.2 inches narrower than the GV80 Coupe, making the CX-5 easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Passenger Space

The CX-5 has 1.4 inches more rear headroom and .9 inches more rear legroom than the GV80 Coupe.

Cargo Capacity

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the CX-5 easier. The CX-5’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 29.4 inches, while the GV80 Coupe’s liftover is 31.6 inches.

Ergonomics

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the CX-5 has a standard rear wiper. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a rear wiper.
