The Vantage has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the M8’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Vantage has standard Rear Cross Traffic Assist and automatically engage the brakes. BMW charges extra for Cross Traffic Warning on the M8 and the M8’s Cross Traffic Warning does not include automatic braking.

Both the Vantage and the M8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

The Vantage comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The M8’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

The Vantage’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 39 more horsepower (656 vs. 617) and 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (590 vs. 553) than the M8’s 4.4 turbo V8.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Aston Martin Vantage higher (5 out of 10) than the BMW M8 (3). This means the Vantage produces up to 16.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the M8 every 15,000 miles.

For better traction and acceleration, the Vantage has larger rear tires than the M8 (325/30R21 vs. 285/35R20).

The Vantage’s 325/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the M8’s standard 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Vantage has standard 21-inch wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the M8.

The Vantage has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the M8; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The Vantage’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the M8’s (52.9% to 47.1%). This gives the Vantage more stable handling and braking.

The Aston Martin Vantage may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 800 pounds less than the BMW M8.

The Vantage is 1 foot, 2.9 inches shorter than the M8 Coupe/Convertible, making the Vantage easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the M8, the Vantage has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Vantage has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The M8 doesn’t offer headlight washers.
