The DB12’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the AMG SL.

Both the DB12 and the AMG SL have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The DB12 comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The AMG SL’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

The DB12’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the AMG SL’s (10 vs. 5 years).

Engine

The DB12’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 295 more horsepower (670 vs. 375) and 159 lbs.-ft. more torque (513 vs. 354) than the AMG SL 43’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid. The DB12’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 201 more horsepower (670 vs. 469) than the AMG SL 55’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The DB12’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 93 more horsepower (670 vs. 577) than the AMG SL 63’s standard 4.0 turbo V8.

Fuel Economy and Range

The DB12 has 2 gallons more fuel capacity than the AMG SL (20.5 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the DB12’s brake rotors are larger than those on the AMG SL:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the DB12 has larger tires than the AMG SL (F:275/35R21 & R:305/30R21 vs. F:255/45R19 & R:285/40R19).

The DB12’s 275/35R21 front and 305/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG SL 43’s standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the DB12 has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the AMG SL 43.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the DB12’s wheelbase is 4.1 inches longer than on the AMG SL (110.4 inches vs. 106.3 inches).

For better maneuverability, the DB12’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the AMG SL 55/63’s (38.4 feet vs. 40.7 feet). The DB12’s turning circle is 4.3 feet tighter than the AMG SL 43’s (38.4 feet vs. 42.7 feet).

Model Availability

The Aston Martin DB12 comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Mercedes AMG SL isn’t available as a coupe.
