Safety

Warranty

The Encore GX’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Crown Signia’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Reliability

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Encore GX has a standard 760-amp battery. The Crown Signia’s 600-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Buick vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Buick above average in initial quality. With 28 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated lower.

Fuel Economy and Range

Both the Encore GX and Crown Signia have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. The Encore GX has a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The Encore GX has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Encore GX’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Crown Signia (245/45R19 vs. 235/45R21).

The Encore GX has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Encore GX has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Crown Signia; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The Encore GX AWD handles at .84 G’s, while the Crown Signia Limited pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Encore GX’s turning circle is 2.6 feet tighter than the Crown Signia’s (36.9 feet vs. 39.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Encore GX has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Crown Signia (7.5 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the Encore GX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Buick Encore GX may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 950 to 1200 pounds less than the Toyota Crown Signia.

The Encore GX is 1 foot, 10.9 inches shorter than the Crown Signia, making the Encore GX easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Encore GX uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Encore GX uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Encore GX has .6 inches more front headroom and 3 inches more rear hip room than the Crown Signia.

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Buick service is better than Toyota. J.D. Power ranks Buick 9th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 20% lower rating, Toyota is ranked 24th.

Ergonomics

The Encore GX’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Crown Signia does not have an oil pressure gauge.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Encore GX’s available exterior PIN entry system. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system.

The Encore GX Avenir has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

Model Availability

The Encore GX is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
