The Civic’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The Integra’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

Both the Civic and the Integra have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

For its performance in IIHS driver-side and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, updated side impact, headlight, and daytime pedestrian crash prevention testing, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Civic the rating of “Top Safety Pick” for 2023, a rating granted to only 107 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Integra has not been fully tested, yet.

There are almost 4 times as many Honda dealers as there are Acura dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Civic’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Civic’s reliability 13 points higher than the Integra.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Honda vehicles are better in initial quality than Acura vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Honda above average in initial quality. With 12 more problems per 100 vehicles, Acura is rated lower.

The Civic Hybrid’s standard 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid produces 40 lbs.-ft. more torque (232 vs. 192) than the Integra’s standard 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder.

On the EPA test cycle the Civic gets better mileage than the Integra:

Regenerative brakes improve the Civic Hybrid’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Integra doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Regardless of its engine, the Civic’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Integra Type S doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Honda Civic uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Integra requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

The Civic stops shorter than the Integra:

For better maneuverability, the Civic LX/Sport Hybrid’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the Integra’s (36.1 feet vs. 38.1 feet). The Civic Sport/Touring’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the Integra Type S’ (38.1 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

The Civic Sedan is 6.8 inches shorter than the Integra, making the Civic easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Civic Hybrid uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Integra doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Civic has 3.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Integra (99 vs. 95.8).

The Civic has .7 inches more front headroom and .7 inches more rear headroom than the Integra.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The Civic’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the Integra’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

With standard voice command, the Civic Sport Hybrid Touring offers the driver hands free control of the radio and the navigation computer by simply speaking. The Integra doesn’t offer a voice control system.

The Honda Civic comes in sedan and four door hatchback bodystyles; the Acura Integra isn’t available as a sedan.

Insurance will cost less for the Civic owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Civic will cost $900 less than the Integra over a five-year period.

The Civic will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Civic will retain 55.63% to 60.2% of its original price after five years, while the Integra only retains 50.41% to 50.54%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Honda Civic will be $7594 to $8868 less than for the Acura Integra.
