For enhanced safety, the front and second-row seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX80 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Dodge Durango doesn’t offer pretensioners for its second-row seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the QX80 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Durango doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Infiniti QX80 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Durango doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The QX80 Autograph has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Durango doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The QX80 has standard Rear Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Durango doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The QX80’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Durango and is not available with SXT.

The QX80 has a standard Around View® Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Durango only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The QX80’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Durango doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the QX80 and the Durango have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

The Infiniti QX80 weighs 578 to 1335 pounds more than the Dodge Durango. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The QX80 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Durango’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 24,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the QX80 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Dodge covers the Durango. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Durango ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The QX80’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Durango’s (7 vs. 5 years).

Infiniti pays for scheduled maintenance on the QX80 for 3 years and 45000 miles. Infiniti will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Dodge doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Durango.

Reliability

For smoother operation, better efficiency and fewer moving parts, the QX80 has an overhead cam design, rather than the old pushrod design of the 5.7 V8 in the Durango.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are better in initial quality than Dodge vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti above average in initial quality. With 114 more problems per 100 vehicles, Dodge is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Infiniti vehicles are more reliable than Dodge vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Infiniti 8 places higher in reliability than Dodge.

Engine

The QX80’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 157 more horsepower (450 vs. 293) and 256 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 260) than the Durango’s standard 3.6 DOHC V6. The QX80’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 155 more horsepower (450 vs. 295) and 256 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 260) than the Durango’s optional 3.6 DOHC V6. The QX80’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 90 more horsepower (450 vs. 360) and 126 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 390) than the Durango’s optional 5.7 V8.

Fuel Economy and Range

The QX80 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Durango doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Infiniti QX80, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Durango.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the QX80 has larger tires than the Durango (275/60R20 vs. 265/60R18).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the QX80 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Durango SXT. The QX80 Luxe/Sensory/Autograph’s 22-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the Durango.

The Infiniti QX80’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Dodge Durango only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The QX80 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Durango doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the QX80’s wheelbase is 1.2 inches longer than on the Durango (121 inches vs. 119.8 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the QX80 is 4.1 inches wider in the front and 3.9 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Durango.

For greater off-road capability the QX80 Pure has a 1.5 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Durango (9.6 vs. 8.1 inches), allowing the QX80 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The QX80 Luxe/Sensory/Autograph’s minimum ground clearance is 1.9 inches higher than on the Durango (10 vs. 8.1 inches).

Chassis

The QX80 uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Durango doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The QX80 offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the Durango can only carry up to 7.

The QX80 has 19.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Durango (161.1 vs. 141.4).

The QX80 has 3.5 inches more front legroom, 2.9 inches more front hip room, 5.7 inches more front shoulder room, .6 inches more rear legroom, 4.4 inches more rear hip room, 6 inches more rear shoulder room, 9.3 inches more third row hip room and 12.7 inches more third row shoulder room than the Durango.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the QX80’s middle and third row seats recline. The Durango’s third row seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The QX80’s cargo area provides more volume than the Durango.

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the QX80 Luxe/Sensory/Autograph’s second row seats and pressing a switch automatically lowers or raises the QX80’s third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Durango doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the QX80’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Durango doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Payload and Towing

The QX80’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Durango’s (8500 vs. 6200 pounds).

The QX80 has a higher standard payload capacity than the Durango (1455 vs. 1400 lbs.).

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than Dodge. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti 6th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 49% lower rating, Dodge is ranked 27th.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the Durango (except SXT), the QX80 Sensory/Autograph has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The QX80’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Durango, and is not available on all models.

The QX80 Luxe/Sensory/Autograph has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction, incoming text message, infotainment and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Durango doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The QX80’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Durango’s parking brake has to be released manually.

The QX80’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Durango’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

The QX80’s standard Infiniti Intelligent Key allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Enter-N-Go standard on the Durango doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The QX80’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Durango’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

The QX80 has standard front and second row heated seats; a heated third row is standard on QX80 Autograph, which keep the driver and passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Dodge doesn’t offer heated seats in the third row of the Durango.

Standard air conditioned seats in the front and second seat rows keep the QX80 Luxe/Sensory/Autograph’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Durango doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.

The QX80 Sensory/Autograph has standard massaging front and rear seats (rear massaging seats on Autograph). Massaging seats aren’t available in the Durango.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Infiniti QX80 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Durango.
