Compare the2025 Genesis Electrified GV70VS 2024 Kia EV9

The Electrified GV70’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The EV9 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the Electrified GV70 deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The Electrified GV70’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The EV9’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

The Electrified GV70 has standard Anti-whiplash Front Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-whiplash Front Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The EV9 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Electrified GV70. But it costs extra on the EV9.

Both the Electrified GV70 and the EV9 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Genesis Electrified GV70 (built after April 2024) has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2024 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The EV9 is only a standard “Top Safety Pick” for 2024, though it hasn’t yet been rated in the updated moderate overlap frontal test, a requirement for the “Top Safety Pick Plus” award.

The Electrified GV70’s corrosion warranty is 2 years and unlimited miles longer than the EV9’s (7/unlimited vs. 5/100,000).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the Electrified GV70 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Kia doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the EV9.

The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 228 more horsepower (429 vs. 201) and 258 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 258) than the EV9 Light Long Range’s standard electric motor. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 214 more horsepower (429 vs. 215) and 258 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 258) than the EV9 Light’s standard electric motor. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 50 more horsepower (429 vs. 379) and 73 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 443) than the EV9 Land/Wind’s standard electric motors. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 50 more horsepower (429 vs. 379) than the EV9 GT-Line’s standard electric motors.

The Electrified GV70’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The EV9 doesn’t offer launch control.

The Electrified GV70 stops shorter than the EV9:

For better traction, the Electrified GV70 has larger tires than the EV9 (265/45R20 vs. 255/60R19).

The Electrified GV70’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the EV9’s standard 60 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Electrified GV70 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the EV9.

The Electrified GV70 has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The EV9’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Electrified GV70’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the EV9’s (47.9% to 52.1%). This gives the Electrified GV70 more stable handling and braking.

For better maneuverability, the Electrified GV70’s turning circle is 2.8 feet tighter than the EV9’s (37.8 feet vs. 40.6 feet).

The Electrified GV70 has a much larger cargo volume than the EV9 with its rear seat up (28.7 vs. 20.2 cubic feet).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Electrified GV70 easier. The Electrified GV70’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 29.9 inches, while the EV9’s liftover is 31.4 inches.

A standard locking glovebox (which can’t be accessed with the valet key) keeps your small valuables safer in the Electrified GV70. The EV9 doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

The Electrified GV70’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the EV9’s (3500 vs. 2000 pounds).

The Genesis Electrified GV70 has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the EV9 Land/GT-Line.

The Genesis Electrified GV70 has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Kia charges extra for Homelink® on the EV9.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Genesis Electrified GV70, based on reliability, safety and performance.

Motor Trend selected the Electrified GV70 as their 2022 Sport Utility of the Year. The EV9 has never been chosen.

The Genesis GV70 outsold the Kia EV9 by over 23 to one during 2023.
