The Electrified GV70’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The VF 8 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Genesis Electrified GV70 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The VinFast VF 8 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the Electrified GV70 and VF 8 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Electrified GV70 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The VF 8’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Electrified GV70 are reminded to check the back seat when a sensor determines the back seat is occupied. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Electrified GV70 has standard Anti-whiplash Front Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Anti-whiplash Front Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Electrified GV70 and VF 8 have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Electrified GV70 has Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The VF 8’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Electrified GV70 and the VF 8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Genesis Electrified GV70 (built after April 2024) has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2024 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The VF 8 has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

The Electrified GV70’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the VF 8’s (unlimited vs. 125000 miles).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the Electrified GV70 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. VinFast doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the VF 8.

There are over 60 times as many Genesis dealers as there are VinFast dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Electrified GV70’s warranty.

The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 80 more horsepower (429 vs. 349) and 147 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 369) than the VF 8 Eco’s standard electric motors. The Electrified GV70’s electric motors produces 27 more horsepower (429 vs. 402) and 59 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 457) than the VF 8 Plus’ standard electric motors.

As tested in Car and Driver the Genesis Electrified GV70 is faster than the VF 8 Plus:

The Electrified GV70’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The VF 8 doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the Electrified GV70 has larger tires than the VF 8 (265/45R20 vs. 225/55R19). The Electrified GV70 AWD’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the VF 8 (265/45R20 vs. 245/45R20).

The Electrified GV70’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the VF 8 Eco’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Electrified GV70 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the VF 8 Eco.

For superior ride and handling, the Genesis Electrified GV70 has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The VinFast VF 8 has a rear torsion beam axle, with a semi-independent rear suspension.

The Electrified GV70 has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The VF 8’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Electrified GV70 Prestige handles at .85 G’s, while the VF 8 Plus pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Electrified GV70’s turning circle is 2.8 feet tighter than the VF 8’s (37.8 feet vs. 40.6 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Electrified GV70 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the VF 8 (6.9 vs. 6.8 inches), allowing the Electrified GV70 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Genesis Electrified GV70 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 550 pounds less than the VinFast VF 8.

For excellent aerodynamics, the Electrified GV70 has standard flush composite headlights. The VF 8 has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The Electrified GV70 Prestige uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The VF 8 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Electrified GV70 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the VF 8 with its rear seat up (28.7 vs. 13.2 cubic feet). The Electrified GV70 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the VF 8 with its rear seat folded (56.5 vs. 48.4 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the Electrified GV70’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The VF 8 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Electrified GV70 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The VF 8 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Electrified GV70’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The VF 8’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The Electrified GV70 has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the VF 8.

The Electrified GV70 has a 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Electrified GV70’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The VF 8 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The Electrified GV70 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023. The VF 8 has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

Motor Trend selected the Electrified GV70 as their 2022 Sport Utility of the Year. The VF 8 has never been chosen.
