Compare the2025 Genesis G70VS 2025 Toyota Camry

The G70 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Camry doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

The G70 has standard whiplash protection, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the whiplash protection system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Camry doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the G70 has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist with automatic braking, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Rear Cross-Traffic Braking costs extra on the Camry XLE/XSE, and isn't offered on other Camry models.

Both the G70 and the Camry have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The G70 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Camry’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the G70 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Toyota covers the Camry. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Camry ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The G70’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Camry’s (7 vs. 5 years).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the G70 for 1 year and 11000 miles longer than Toyota pays for maintenance for the Camry (3/36,000 vs. 2/25000).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 8 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated lower.

The G70 2.5T’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 75 more horsepower (300 vs. 225) than the Camry’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid. The G70 2.5T’s 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 68 more horsepower (300 vs. 232) than the Camry’s optional 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid. The G70 3.3T’s standard 3.3 turbo V6 produces 133 more horsepower (365 vs. 232) than the Camry’s optional 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

As tested in Motor Trend the G70 3.3T 3.3 turbo V6 is faster than the Toyota Camry (232 HP engine):

The G70 has 2.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Camry (15.8 vs. 13 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The G70 3.3T’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Camry doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the G70’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Camry:

The G70’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Camry are solid, not vented.

For better traction, the G70 has larger tires than the Camry (F:225/40R19 & R:255/35R19 vs. 205/65R16).

The G70’s 225/40R19 front and 255/35R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Camry LE’s standard 65 series tires. The G70’s tires are lower profile than the Camry XSE’s 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the G70 has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 16-inch wheels are standard on the Camry LE.

The G70 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The Camry’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The G70 handles at .94 G’s, while the Camry XLE AWD pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The G70 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.3 seconds quicker than the Camry XLE AWD (24.9 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 27.2 seconds @ .66 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the G70’s turning circle is 1.1 feet tighter than the Camry’s (36.3 feet vs. 37.4 feet).

The G70 is 9.1 inches shorter than the Camry, making the G70 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the G70 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Camry doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The G70 has 1.5 inches more front headroom, .5 inches more front legroom and 1.1 inches more rear headroom than the Camry.

To allow full utilization of available cargo room, the G70’s trunk lid uses concealed beam hinges that don’t intrude into the trunk. Its intrusive beam hinge reduces the Camry’s useful trunk space.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the G70’s trunk can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The G70 3.3T Sport Prestige also has a standard power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The Camry doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

The G70 uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Camry uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

The engine in the G70 is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Camry. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

The G70 has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Camry doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The G70’s standard Proximity Key allows you to unlock the doors from either front door handle, open the trunk, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Push Button Start standard on the Camry only offers hands-free access for the ignition, none to unlock the car.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the G70 3.3T Elite/Prestige/Sport has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Camry doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The G70’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Camry offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The G70 has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the Camry. The G70 Prestige/Sport also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Camry.

The G70 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2019. The Camry has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
