For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Ford F-Super Duty have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The Nissan Titan XD doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The F-Super Duty offers optional Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Titan XD doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the F-Super Duty and Titan XD offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the F-Super Duty with Cross Traffic Alert also has Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Titan XD’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the F-Super Duty and the Titan XD have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras, available four-wheel drive, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

There are almost 3 times as many Ford dealers as there are Nissan dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the F-Super Duty’s warranty.

The Ford F-Super Duty’s engines use a cast iron block for durability, while the Titan XD’s engine uses an aluminum block. Aluminum engine blocks are much more prone to warp and crack at high temperatures than cast iron.

In the Ford F-Super Duty, the optional 6.7 turbo V8 diesel has a gear driven camshaft to prevent engine damage from a broken camshaft belt or chain. Gears don’t exert side forces against the camshaft that can wear the cam bearings. The engine in the Nissan all use chain driven camshafts.

The F-Super Duty has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The Titan XD doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

The F-Super Duty 4x4 has a solid front axle with a floating power axle for durability that the Titan XD’s independent front suspension and exposed front driveshafts don’t offer.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the F-Super Duty second among large heavy duty pickups in their 2024 Initial Quality Study. The Titan XD isn’t in the top three in its category.

The F-Super Duty’s standard 6.8 V8 produces 5 more horsepower (405 vs. 400) and 32 lbs.-ft. more torque (445 vs. 413) than the Titan XD’s 5.6 DOHC V8. The F-Super Duty’s optional 7.3 V8 produces 30 more horsepower (430 vs. 400) and 72 lbs.-ft. more torque (485 vs. 413) than the Titan XD’s 5.6 DOHC V8.

The F-Super Duty’s optional 6.7 turbo V8 diesel produces 75 more horsepower (475 vs. 400) and 637 lbs.-ft. more torque (1050 vs. 413) than the Titan XD’s 5.6 DOHC V8. The F-Super Duty’s optional 6.7 turbo V8 diesel produces 100 more horsepower (500 vs. 400) and 787 lbs.-ft. more torque (1200 vs. 413) than the Titan XD’s 5.6 DOHC V8.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Ford F-Super Duty uses regular unleaded gasoline. The Titan XD requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost on average about 82.8 cents more per gallon.

The F-Super Duty Diesel’s standard fuel tank has 3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Titan XD (29 vs. 26 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The F-Super Duty Crew Cab’s optional fuel tank has 22 gallons more fuel capacity than the Titan XD (48 vs. 26 gallons).

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Ford F-Super Duty, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a nine-speed automatic is available for the Titan XD.

For better traction, the F-Super Duty Off-Road’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Titan XD (285/70R17 vs. 275/65R18).

The Ford F-Super Duty’s wheels have 8 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Nissan Titan XD only has 6 wheel lugs per wheel. The F-450’s wheels have 10 lugs.

The F-Super Duty’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Titan XD doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the F-250 Standard Bed SuperCrew’s wheelbase is 8.1 inches longer than on the Titan XD (159.7 inches vs. 151.6 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the F-Super Duty is 5.2 inches wider in the front and 3.2 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Titan XD.

The F-350 Long Bed Lariat SuperCrew 4x4 handles at .72 G’s, while the Titan XD Platinum pulls only .69 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the F-250 Long Bed Regular Cab 4x4’s turning circle is 6.2 feet tighter than the Titan XD’s (47.6 feet vs. 53.8 feet).

The Ford F-Super Duty may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 700 pounds less than the Nissan Titan XD.

The F-Super Duty SuperCrew has 12.2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Titan XD (131.9 vs. 119.7).

The Ford F-Super Duty has a standard tailgate assist feature, which allows for much easier access to the cargo area. A rear cargo step is only available on the Nissan Titan XD PRO-4X/Platinum Reserve/SV Regular Cab for extra cost.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the F-Super Duty King Ranch/Platinum/Limited has a standard power cargo door, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The Titan XD doesn’t offer a power cargo door.

The F-Super Duty’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the Titan XD’s (14100 vs. 11050 pounds). Maximum trailer towing in the Nissan Titan XD is only 11050 pounds. The F-450 Long Bed Regular Cab offers up to a 40,000 lbs. towing capacity.

The F-Super Duty has a much higher standard payload capacity than the Titan XD (3800 vs. 2260 lbs.).

The F-Super Duty has a much higher maximum payload capacity than the Titan XD (6457 vs. 2260 lbs.).

The F-Super Duty (except XL/XLT) offers an available heads-up display that projects speed in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Titan XD doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The F-Super Duty’s power parking brake sets with one touch and releases with one touch or automatically. The Titan XD’s parking brake has to be released manually.

The power windows standard on both the F-Super Duty and the Titan XD have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the F-Super Duty is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The Titan XD prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the F-Super Duty’s available exterior PIN entry system. The Titan XD doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its extra cost NissanConnect Services can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the F-Super Duty has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Titan XD doesn’t offer cornering lights. The F-Super Duty also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The F-Super Duty Platinum/Limited has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Titan XD.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Ford F-Super Duty Lariat/King Ranch/Platinum/Limited has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the front center console. The Titan XD doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The Ford F-Super Duty comes in regular cab, extended cab and crew cab bodystyles; the Nissan Titan XD isn’t available as a regular cab or extended cab.

The F-Super Duty is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Titan XD doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the F-Super Duty as the 2024 North American Truck of the Year. The Titan XD has never been chosen.
