The GranTurismo Folgore has standard Automated Emergency Braking, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GranTurismo Folgore has standard Rear Emergency Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The GranTurismo Folgore’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the GranTurismo Folgore’s optional Rear Cross Path uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

The GranTurismo Folgore’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the GranTurismo Folgore and the Mercedes AMG GT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and available blind spot warning systems.

The Maserati GranTurismo Folgore weighs 741 pounds more than the Mercedes AMG GT. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The GranTurismo Folgore’s electric motors produces 174 more horsepower (751 vs. 577) and 406 lbs.-ft. more torque (996 vs. 590) than the Mercedes AMG GT 63’s standard 4.0 turbo V8.

The GranTurismo Folgore can travel with zero emissions for 242 miles. The Mercedes AMG GT can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the GranTurismo Folgore’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The GranTurismo Folgore, as a pure battery electric vehicle, has no need to “idle” its motors in traffic: they only burn power when moving. The GranTurismo Folgore’s climate control systems still work completely when the vehicle is stopped. The Mercedes AMG GT still runs its internal combustion engine whenever it’s stopped, burning excess fuel.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore higher (10 out of 10) than the Mercedes AMG GT (5). The front and rear suspension of the GranTurismo Folgore uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Mercedes AMG GT, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The GranTurismo Folgore has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The GranTurismo Folgore’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranTurismo Folgore’s wheelbase is 9 inches longer than on the Mercedes AMG GT (115.3 inches vs. 106.3 inches).

The GranTurismo Folgore’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Mercedes AMG GT’s (54% to 46%). This gives the GranTurismo Folgore more stable handling and braking.

The GranTurismo Folgore’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Mercedes AMG GT’s

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the GranTurismo Folgore offers an optional Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.
