The GranTurismo Folgore has standard Automated Emergency Braking, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The 812 doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GranTurismo Folgore has standard Rear Emergency Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The 812 doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The GranTurismo Folgore has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The 812 doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The GranTurismo Folgore’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The 812 doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the GranTurismo Folgore’s optional Rear Cross Path uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The 812 doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

The GranTurismo Folgore’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The 812 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the GranTurismo Folgore and the 812 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, front and rear parking sensors and available blind spot warning systems.

The Maserati GranTurismo Folgore weighs 1355 pounds more than the Ferrari 812. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The GranTurismo Folgore comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The 812’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

The GranTurismo Folgore’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the 812’s (4 vs. 3 years).

There are almost 3 times as many Maserati dealers as there are Ferrari dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GranTurismo Folgore’s warranty.

Engine

The GranTurismo Folgore’s electric motors produces 466 lbs.-ft. more torque (996 vs. 530) than the 812’s 6.5 DOHC V12.

Fuel Economy and Range

Regenerative brakes improve the GranTurismo Folgore’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The 812 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore higher (10 out of 10) than the Ferrari 812 (3). This means the GranTurismo Folgore produces up to 36.3 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 812 every 15,000 miles.

Drivetrain

All wheel drive, available in the GranTurismo Folgore, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Ferrari 812 is not available with all wheel drive.

Tires and Wheels

The GranTurismo Folgore’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 812’s standard 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GranTurismo Folgore has standard 21-inch rear wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the 812.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the GranTurismo Folgore uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the 812, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranTurismo Folgore’s wheelbase is 8.2 inches longer than on the 812 (115.3 inches vs. 107.1 inches).

The GranTurismo Folgore’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the 812’s (47% to 53%). This gives the GranTurismo Folgore more stable handling and braking.

Chassis

The design of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore amounts to more than styling. The GranTurismo Folgore has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .26 Cd. That is lower than the 812 (.288). A more efficient exterior helps the GranTurismo Folgore go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the GranTurismo Folgore get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The GranTurismo Folgore has standard seating for 4 passengers; the 812 can only carry 2.

Cargo Capacity

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the GranTurismo Folgore’s trunk can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The 812 doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the 812, the GranTurismo Folgore has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The GranTurismo Folgore offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The 812 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The GranTurismo Folgore’s front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The 812’s front passenger window doesn’t close automatically.

The GranTurismo Folgore’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The 812’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

If the windows are left open on the GranTurismo Folgore the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the 812 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The GranTurismo Folgore’s standard Extended Keyless Go allow you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the car, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Start standard on the 812 only offers hands-free access for the ignition, none to unlock the car.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the GranTurismo Folgore detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The 812 doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the GranTurismo Folgore has standard extendable sun visors. The 812 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the GranTurismo Folgore keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The 812 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the GranTurismo Folgore’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The 812 doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the GranTurismo Folgore offers an optional Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The 812 doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

The GranTurismo Folgore’s standard steering wheel mounted cruise control on/off switch is conveniently located with the rest of the cruise controls. The 812’s standard cruise control must be turned on with a hard to find switch on the dashboard.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the front center console. The 812 doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
